Noted but who wants to watch wipe-outs? Instead, watch The Baby News Network, funniest videos around.Today I noticed an interesting feature of PEACOCK.
I have added every UConn game to their My List menu item. I did this so that I could watch the recorded replay into the foreseeable future. Sorta like Hulu Live storing my recordings for nine months. I didn't know how long PEACOCK would store the replays.
Today I found out.
A message appears for every replay: 27 Days Left to Watch.
This includes tonight's game! 😲
How long is the BE/PEACOCK contract for????
The NCAA Tournament is broadcasted on the ESPN channels.Noted but who wants to watch wipe-outs? Instead, watch The Baby News Network, funniest videos around.
Does anyone know if we still need Peacock going into the NCAAs? It's cheap but worthless if it's not needed.
Me. That's why I posted this thread.I think being able to watch a replay for a few weeks after a game is pretty good. Who wants to watch the Big East game replays more than once, anyway? I live as far from Storrs as you can get in the mainland US, but I've been able to watch every game this year. I will gladly take that, whatever the network, the distracted announcers, etc.
I would put John Fanta up against anyone in the world in a useless, irrelevant basketball talking contest. He is known as Mr. Instant Mute in my household.Apparently, you have never heard Donny Marshall on the broadcast of a UConn game.
So I think two disclosures are necessary here.I would put John Fanta up against anyone in the world in a useless, irrelevant basketball talking contest. He is known as Mr. Instant Mute in my household.
Nice to hear. Still talks a blue streak. If he used his knowledge in a pointed way about what was happening on the court it would work well. Ever listen to Hubie Brown? The right stat at the right time. The right comment at the right time. No tangents. So I think two disclosures are necessary here.
The first is that Donny Marshall's partner in most men's basketball broadcast is none other than John Fanta.
The second is that I'm actually a big Fanta fan. He is actually a very knowledgeable and incredibly enthusiastic sports fan. He's also a pretty decent guy. On one occasion taking the train into a men's basketball game at MSG, Fanta overheard our conversation about the women's team and enthusiastically invited himself into it. He was very knowledgeable about the roster deep into the bench players. He also utterly lacked pretense and was delighted to just sit around and BS about sports. The conversation drifted to the men's team, to the Big East college basketball in general. When I've bumped into him in MSG he's friendly and always stops to talk. He's a good dude.
I will compare the two different teams announcing by him next time available and see if he talks more in the womens game. I would guess so since it seems too be an epidemic. So I think two disclosures are necessary here.

The difference is that Fox is the lead provider for the BE mens tournament but doesn't have exclusive rights to it. TNT and NBC (Peacock) also have rights to the early round games. However, NBC (Peacock) DOES have exclusive rights to the BE womens tournament and purchased those rights specifically.Honestly, other than the inconvenience of having to stream it, and having to sign up for another service, I don't mind it.
I don't love the fact that the entire big east tournament, including the championship game, was broadcast on Peacock while all, but the opening round games of the men's tournament are on the Fox network. Implicit in that would seem to be a statement that the woman's basketball tournament has less value. It does, but minimally. The last two rounds ought to have been at least on FS1. The problem is that putting the games on Peacock because there is a perception of reduced viewership becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. When this year's ratings are looked at, they will be lower because they were on Peacock rather than on a traditional cable station. That creates the possibility that future games will also be relegated to subscription services based upon the fact of what I anticipate will be lower viewership numbers this year, which intern is based upon the fact that the games weren't available on cable. Seems like a circular reasoning death spiral to me.

I hear you. Again, some of that is a function of the fact of the Connecticut women's basketball dominance against Big East opponents. For some reason commentators, and not just Fanta, seemed to feel like they need to insert anecdotes to make it more interesting. I'd much rather have them talk about player, achievements stats, etc. then listen to them drone on about their personal lives.Nice to hear. Still talks a blue streak. Yeah, that's on Val Ackerman for deciding the dollar differential was worth the reduced exposure. The difference is that Fox is the lead provider for the BE mens tournament but doesn't have exclusive rights to it. Well, one reason is that the games are competitive. And I'm keeping the other reason to myself out of fear of being pilloried. So here is the question. Why don't the announcers for men's games do the same thing with non stop prattle and rattle? Because if they did they would be off the air in 10 minutes. Why do they think they need to or can do it for women's games? It's demeaning, irritating, condescending and at its heart sexist. As though they and the network are saying, the game isn't enough to keep anyone watching, we have to talk it up. Does anyone know where complaints can be sent in to Peacock?
While I don't care to listen to him all that much (and he is better in small doses), it is hard to not like Fanta. He seems a nice guy with tons of enthusiasm.I hear you. To be fair, Donny sometimes has funny stories like his claim that Ray Allen never passed him the ball. "I knew if the ball went into Ray it wasn't coming back out." That stuff is funny.
Still, it seems clear to me that Fanta does his prep work. Sometimes he gets too stuck into a pre-plan narrative that doesn't necessarily fit the action. But that's often true of other announcers as well.
Or she was hoping that signing on with NBCUniversal (the owner of PEACOCK) would lead to Tournament games also being OTA on NBC???Yeah, that's on Val Ackerman for deciding the dollar differential was worth the reduced exposure.
Agree. Horrible. Like Beth Mowin horrible. The errors, he makes...."Blanca Quionez with her first points of the game" (and she had scored a couple minutes before that. It goes on and on.) Absolute mess. He's completely clueless.I would put John Fanta up against anyone in the world in a useless, irrelevant basketball talking contest. He is known as Mr. Instant Mute in my household.
Yes that is it, an absolute hot mess.Agree. Horrible. Like Beth Mowin horrible. The errors, he makes...."Blanca Quionez with her first points of the game" (and she had scored a couple minutes before that. It goes on and on.) Absolute mess. He's completely clueless.
Agreed. It’s amateur hour. The worst coverage ever. By the second half, they've forgotten about the game and spend too much time talking about other things while undescribed action goes on. UConn scores a lot of its baskets after stealing the inbounds pass for a quick layup, and several times we were deprived of seeing those plays because the Peacock director insisted on putting some data chart on the screen during the inbounds play, or breaking to a shot of reacting players/coaches sitting on the bench. And for this, most viewers have to pay?
It definitely included games on Peacock. If she agreed to the deal because she "imagined" or "hoped" that the women's basketball tournament wouldn't be on Peacock, despite the fact that the contract allowed it, that's a pretty egregious error. It's probably more likely that she looked to get money wherever she could. We aren't paid a lot in the big east.Or she was hoping that signing on with NBCUniversal (the owner of PEACOCK) would lead to Tournament games also being OTA on NBC???
I don't remember if the contract was PEACOCK specific.
