Tim Welsh, the former Providence head coach who is now a college hoops TV analyst at ESPN, is even more confident that Ollie’s job is safe.
“Kevin Ollie, in my mind, is as solid as anyone around,” Welsh said. “I believe in his equity, not only from the national championship but following a legend, being a consistent winner. Two years ago he won a game in the tournament. People have short memories, I understand. But the people who make decisions look at the bigger picture. He’s a quality, high-level coach and person and a representative of what the university stands for. That’s a lot. And he can recruit at a high level.”
