Good question, probably because it didn't happen. Though it does bring up the question of whether any other players did. Just because Gerold turned down the request doesn't mean others did. Add that the request came from an assistant coach. God if thats not a death sentence right there, I don't know what is.

Why did Coleman make the claim? What did he have to gain?

Huh? Coleman never said he actually threw a game. That is what I was saying never happened. No one, from that account, actually threw a game.

He said Driscoll asked him to and he declined, or at least that is how I read it.

I'm saying, I'm surprised the NCAA didn't look into the issue with the rest of the team. Just because Coleman has some honor doesn't mean the rest of the team does. Who is to say other players didn't follow Driscoll's orders to throw games? (not that they would have had to try hard, PC has been horrid)

As I also said, I'm surprised the NCAA didn't look into the claim a coach asked a player to throw a game, that alone should be some sort of penalty, if not a major one.

Nope, not missing it. I get why Coleman would have been asked by Drisoll first (or the only one asked). I don't necessarily believe any players did, but if I were the NCAA I would take a look into it. It's a serious enough accusation by a current player to check out.

With Driscoll you are talking about a man who obviously was good at ingratiating himself with players and who knows what other influence/relationships he made while at PC even if they weren't BABC players prior. There are plenty of things Driscoll could promise a player in order to get them to do what he wanted (if he was to become the next head coach, as he thought would happen).

I realize that there will always some be emotionally charged drama among fans of a program but pound for pound PC's fan base has to be the biggest soap opera in the history of intercollegiate athletics.

Wouldn't all of the coaching staff be fired when Keno was? Were any retained by Cooley?

Read the piece this morning. It doesn't even sound like Noel is that polished of a player and may flame out the way that Blaylock guy did whom they mention in the article

Noel will be the biggest incoming force in college basketball next season.

Comparing Noel to Blalock? No comparison. One is a PG ranked #100 or so and the other is a PF/C shot-blocking fiend ranked #1 or 2.

Noel may be a great talent, but IMHO UConn should stay away from him if there are any questionable acts or academics in his background that could impact his eligibility. UConn is already in enough hot water with the NCAA and doesn't need any more questionable recruits.

The thing that struck me most in that Times article was that Noel is playing selfishly. Not talking to teammates, wearing sneaker colors that are out of uniform ,etc. That, along with not learning to play with his back to the hoop, and the need or him to gain weight.
If this kid thinks he's going to successfully be a 1 and done, then go right to the NBA to star, he's terribly mistaken. He could be big problems if he stays with this Driscoll character.
