It wasn't long ago that a number of PC fans were convinced that Driscoll would bring every big New England recruit to Providence. Now we see how he was planning on doing this.

Wouldn't shock me with what is in the article. That being said some interesting stuff about PC, Will Blalock, BABC and Tilton in there.

Yea, i think pc and driscoll come off the worse by far

Providence's President comes off as a scam artist in that article.

Remember guys, Providence College may never actually win anything, but they've ALWAYS done things the right way.

Right, my bad. Having your AD overlook resume lies is one thing, but if you're a fan, you can't like your AD getting involved with the coaching staff like that. Coaches have to have guys they can trust. I'm not saying Keno Davis was good for PC but he certainly didn't have a chance in his last year with that stuff going on. And the AD would have been embarrassed if any of that could be validated. Why would Coleman lie about that?

I'm not going to get on PC's case too much for this. Driscoll probably fooled a ton of people. Though the whole background/college degree thing is interesting.

There were some other interesting things in that article (some) concerning UConn.

Will Blalock wanted to come to UConn but got pushed/sold to Iowa St (was UConn that interested?I don't recall, that was the Marcus Williams class).
Oriakhi and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel had close ties with Driscoll, Oriakhi family still does.
Jamal Coombs-McDaniel went to Hofstra where the former Iowa St.(Syracuse assistant) coach is an assistant (Pat Sellers is also a coach there now).

Agent associated with agency that is connected to Lebron/WWW was trying to get close to Noel when he was 15.

Ummm, he steered the first guy away from UConn to Iowa State and UConn didn't hire him...

Did you even read what Blalock said? He wanted to go to UConn. But Driscoll steered him to Iowa St. There's a difference between UConn and Iowa St. One has to offer money to land kids. Jamal Coombs-McDaniel and Oriakhi verbaled to UConn as freshman at Tilton.

Uh, the resume/college degree thing is huge. That's why we're getting on PC. That and the fact the AD hires a guy who submarines the coach.

The school may be a proven "degree mill" now but if it was showing up as a legit school at the time, I can't fault them for that. In hindsight they should have done more checking. They were probably checking into whether Driscoll went to that school rather than checking into what kind of school it was (using the term school loosely).

What about Blalock's comments about wanting some of the money Driscoll supposedly got for 'selling' him to Iowa State? He wasn't mad at Driscoll for taking money but only mad that he didn't get any of it. Also, having local drug dealers buying him plan tickets....Pretty glad he went elsewhere.

Well they got Marcus Williams instead who failed classes his first year and was part of "laptop gate" his second, so...

It's been a bogus school since forever.

Amhurst?

And you're saying the AD was unaware? An AD who doesn't know about colleges?

Some kids have tough lives. I am not getting on Noel here. In fact, I'm in favor of letting agents pay for airline tix and the like. Blalock is Napier's half-brother or step-brother, don't know which. I'm sure the environment he grew up in is no different than Napier's, and Shabazz just lost a close friend.

Blalock & Napier aren't related by blood, they just refer to each other as such since Blalock took in Napier and looked after him as if he was an older brother.

Weren't there also people on your board who eleven months ago claimed that it was more important to keep Driscoll on the staff than to let Cooley choose his assistants?

Good question, probably because it didn't happen. Though it does bring up the question of whether any other players did. Just because Gerold turned down the request doesn't mean others did. Add that the request came from an assistant coach. God if thats not a death sentence right there, I don't know what is.
