Any fan, player or team can relate. Best wishes for a full recovery.

Notre Dame freshman guard Ali Patberg will miss the 2015-16 season after suffering a torn ACL in her right knee during practice Monday afternoon at Purcell Pavilion. She has begun treatment in preparation for corrective surgery on her injury with an approximate rehabilitation time of 8-10 months.

“Our hearts go out to Ali, and we are disappointed she won’t be able to play this season,” said Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw. “However, Ali is an extremely tough young woman, both mentally and physically, and I’m confident this is only a temporary setback and a brief delay to the start of what will be a terrific college career. All of us in the Notre Dame women’s basketball family will be behind Ali 100 percent during her rehabilitation and give her all the resources she needs to be ready to go next season.”

This is terrible news. I watched her play over the summer and thought she was great...and a classic ND-type player in the making...smart, tough, a natural floor leader. One never knows how, and if, players will come back from this kind of injury. I wish her the best, and want her to be a part of the great UConn/ND rivalry.

This truly sucks for Ali. She was on track to be starting PG or ND. Best of luck or a full recovery.

Oh wow- this is terrible. I wa really looking forward to seeing her play on 12/5. She's a jewel of a recruit. Has a great "all-American girl" look too. All of which is great for ND WCBB.

One day at a time until one day is better than that which preceded it, right? Godspeed, Ali.

Terrible news. Here's hoping there's some of that Luck of the Irish for her recovery and return, next season.

I hate to hear this for any player. But, coming back from an ACL and playing at a top level is possible. Odyssey Sims suffered an ACL injury in her senior year in high school and came back to be an all-American.

Huge bummer for her - best wishes of course for a speedy recovery. For ND, I thought I read she might likely be the 5th starter? It's a blow to them - not something that can't be overcome, but I think she was either going to start, or earn big minutes this year...

Snake-bit team. Last year when Turner was out in the first game v. Huskies, many said the UConn win was tainted. Now I wonder what the absence of Loyd and Patberg might conjure. Counterintuitive, but always best to play other teams at full strength.

Sorry to hear this news.

Question for Irish fans: Was she slated to be a guard at Notre Dame? I thought she was a forward in high school.

I don't think she was going to start but she was likely going to be Allen's primary backup and there was some talk of trying Patberg at point at Allen on the wing. Niele and Muffet were high on her, very complimentary of her work ethic and ability to grasp new concepts.

I know all Huskie fans wish her the best, she was #13 ranked recruit on Hoopgurlz. I never want to see any athlete go down with an injury. I hope she has a speedy and full recovery.

For some reason there seems to be way too many ACL injuries in women's basketball.

There is a rich literature and a rich Boneyard thread history on this subject. You can go looking or await the deluge. In a nutshell, skeletal anatomy and muscle mass.

Thanks. I couldn't recall who Irish folks thought the 5th starter would be. I thought there was some talk of her maybe starting, but it seems now. Who starts for the Irish this year (in your opinion)...?

W - Cable
P - Reimer
P - Turner

Rotation
P - Westbeld
G - Ogunbowale

W - Mabrey (Fr.)

Reserves
G - Johnson
P - Nelson
P - Thompson

Maryland fans are way too familiar with ACL injuries. During Stewart's freshman year at UConn both Laurin Mincy and Brene Moseley had their second ACL tears. Both came back so Ali should come back if it isn't too severe.

Doesn't scream final four lock. Wing defense is average at best. Post defense looks goor

Certainly not a lock. But ND does return 7 out of 8 rotation players from last year's runner-up team and the 2 frosh are both All-Americans. On the other hand, it seems like the field is better this year and the one player that isn't returning was pretty darn good. Will be an interesting year.
