And then he took Saniya into his office and asked her how in the hell she had 15 assists the other night. :)

Turnovers are contagious and its hard to stop them unless you make every pass the best you got and you make the hard cuts and you do not let your players anywhere near the hoop........Most of the errors have been lazy ones and that drives any coach crazy.....

Indeed. That is when frustration boils over.

Forgive me, but am I the only one who thinks that the team might have been just too "tired" to meeting coach A's expectations?

Three hour practices and basically a 7 player rotation?

This is my point: This far into the season most players might fractionally improve their overall conditioning, if at all.

If that assumption is even remotely valid, then it follows that gruelling 3 hours practices, this late in the season, are probably counter productive. (Does anyone know how many practices are held in between games? And how many days off do the players get in between games?)

Counting the upcoming games against Marquett and ND, that will be 4 games in just nine days?

Peace,

John Fryer

Uhhh John Fryer:
If you can't pay attention and practice fully mentally and physically for 3 hours, what on earth makes you think one will be able to do it during a 2 hour game?
Does your boss not expect you to be mentally sharp all day every day? If the boss doesn't expect that, and you don't give it, then I'm pretty sure I can show you a less than successful business.

More likely used it to send a message and to give the team a bit of relief, too.

I believe it their attention to detail, not their conditioning, that he is working on.

There is an old coaching philosophy that says when practice turns to practicing bad habits, STOP!!! One doesn't want to reinforce the wrong behaviors.

I don't know how much UConn practices, but I do know the max that is allowed by NCAA rule. Specifically a team cannot practice/play for more than 20 hours per week, and they must get at least one day off per week. Team conditioning, lifting, film study, etc count against the 20 hour limit. All activity on game day counts as an automatic 3 hours.

I believe the highlighted above only count when supervised by a coach. Players are free to do on their own as they choose.

Yes. Players can always do anything they want on their own time with no coach present. That's why I said "team" conditioning/lifting/etc.

Just wanted it clear for folks who may not understand that difference.

Here's a groaner for you, IceBear:

A Polar Bear walks into a bar and squares up to the barman. "I'll have a whiskey and coke ............ and some peanuts" said the Polar Bear, in a gruff voice.

To which the bartender replied, "Why the big paws"

Been saving that one up, huh... ouch!

'spect there is a new bartender at that establishment. Seriously ;) though, read the Kelly quotes in R's missive and wonder if she is trying to channel Casey Stengal. Have always felt she is an overthinker ... sometimes it is the milliseconds of doubt that produce a turn over. I'm cautious about that statement, because I have seen very few games this year and in her quotes I suspect Kelly is being too hard on herself, but sometimes you have to just let go and fly to banish the demons.
