SMU has hired Travis Mays who had been associate head coach at Texas. I'm pretty sure he has great recruiting ties in Texas.

There had been talk that Kelly Harper would get the job but SMU went with Mays.

Yes, indeed. Travis has great recruiting connections in Texas and elsewhere. I am happy for Coach Mays. He deserves this chance. I would have worried a bit if he hadn't gotten a HC position this year with so many openings. It has been clear from the beginning that he wanted to become a HC soon.

Sounds like a very good hire - SMU has to milk their local market for talent (and what a local market it is!) so getting someone with TX credentials is very positive.

Good luck to him and SMU in the Texas market. Can you imagine if he's able to start landing kids like Jefferson, Cox, or Holmes? Maybe not top 10 kids, but I think top 50 kids might be realistic, especially if he's a good coach.
