Illinois Post Game Thread

Between the men & the women's teams and all the championships & accomplishments they've piled up, as well as the retired numbers & names in the Huskies of Honor, it's not like there's a lot of room in Gampel for individual Final Four banners.
Geno alone has 25 Final Fours

Yeah but in fairness they have reason to hate us. We have crushed their dreams repeatedly in brutal fashion. Its cruel. But i like it. I like it a lot. Also Illinois fans in my experience are far less obnoxious than the others. Edit: id like to beat down Purdue again in the tourney. Low key one of the more annoying fan bases ive come across. They were unbarable Edeys last season. They talked all year about dog walking us and when they finally got us and got owned in front of the country all they could go on about was Edey destroying Clingan and how he would be the better pro. Thats hasnt worked out either lol!
I thought this was a forum for adults … who the heck writes “Low key”?

Or am I getting too old?

Man, couldn’t be prouder of JRoss & his development this year.

Kid had 20 high-impact minutes in a Final Four game, played stifling D, committed only 1 foul, didn’t fall for any ball fakes that I could remember, sunk two dagger 3s, looked completely comfortable in the moment.

A huge part of our run through the tourney.

San Diego State can.
I was living in SD for the ‘23 run. Granted, I didn’t watch the NC game at a big busy sports-based bar where a more rowdy crowd would gather; rather, went to my favorite neighborhood spot downtown (Bottlecraft in Little Italy; any craft beer lovers in/visiting SD, can’t recommend it highly enough) where I knew I could get a chill place to watch in relative peace, knowing no matter where I went, I would realistically/likely be the only UConn fan. There were a few middle-age guys watching and clearly rooting for SDSU. They caught on to me rooting for UConn as quietly as I could manage, and were very nice about it. One of them shook my hand in the closing minutes.

In ‘24 I was back in Boston and got tickets for the second weekend at TD Garden. So I got a dose of what SDSU fans made the trip, and a big dose of Illinois fans. I’ll just say it was much much easier to root against the Illinois fans, and it seemed like SDSU fans were appropriately just “happy to be here”.

Haven’t really interacted with B1G fans otherwise but I wonder if there’s just a general smugness in those alumni just because “I went to xyz school” and I can’t think of another reason why they would be, especially with the example of Illinois fans and their attitude despite having never won much of anything in any sport in the last 50+ years

Wishing Luke the best. He bled blue and hopefully he brings some life back to BC. Good for the whole Northeast hoops scene.
He’s gotta cut his teeth as a program leader somewhere, maybe come back home and take over when Hurley decides he’s done. Wish he could do it elsewhere, but at least he’ll be doing it in (albeit at the bottom of) a P4 conference

FYI, CBSSN will rebroadcast the UConn/Illini game at noon today ET. I watched it again early this morning. Never gets old.

My channel guide is wrong. Michigan game is on at noon. UConn game probably on at 2PM ET

Maybe they should have booed a little louder?

The pearl clutchers on social media are having a field day with this. Must be the first time they've ever seen one fan base heckle another in any sport. According to them we're the worst people in the world. They must not get out much.

just the fact he had the onions to shoot a 3 (and make it) in a game of this caliber shows his growth from where he was.

Hurley's ability to squeeze out different players/people from "softer/nicer" guys like Tarris and Ross is his biggest strength as a coach. To get them to find that confidence, and find the extra gear they didnt know about .

Ross next yr will make the full transition to an Ajax who can shoot

Tbh, I don’t think for long though

He was very colorful with his prediction “and I’m picking whoever wins this game, little man”
The CBS crew now regularly flashes posts from fans begging Barkley not to pick their team. He was basically challenging one of them to a fist fight (“I’m here so you know where to find me”). Didn’t think it was possible for him to be oblivious to his horrible track record. Please just keep picking against us, Buddy.

The rafters would be so cluttered I’m not sure you would be able to make any of them out

If you believe it helps the mojo, it helps the mojo
It's only stupid if it doesn't work.
I haven’t yet told my neighbors they need to come over Monday night.

They were here having drinks during the e8 game and wife unbeknownst to me invited them last night at the last minute. They said they were planning to watch the game. Mrs Nj said no problem. We have it on the tv outside.

They are undefeated at our place when UConn is playing.

Pure coaching right there. Underwood can recruit and he can come up with a reasonable gameplan but Hurley takes belt to behind in-game.
Will still never forget his halftime interview of the 30-0 game where he insisted they were going to continue driving the ball at DC. It’s one thing for a coach to not be able to make adjustments but another thing entirely to stubbornly insist on not making adjustments when Plan A is getting your team slaughtered.

I am not expecting UConn to get a warm welcome in Detroit next year after beating both Michigan State and Michigan in this tournament.
That brings up a good question: If you are a Michigan State fan, do you even watch this final?
