What a celebration today in Lexington, KY. Players get their rings for their "run" last year.

Quote from Coach Cal: Presented our rings from the run last year to our returners today. This wasn't to celebrate. This was to remember.

Quote from Fan: Let's do it again this year! Go Big Blue!!!

I agree with the Fan, wouldn't it be fun to beat Kentucky in the Championship Game again for #5!

Almost as ridiculous as making a t-shirt for being ranked #1 in January.

Why is it ridiculous?

If a team makes it to the Final Four, they'll award rings to their players.

It's not a small accomplishment.

Making the Final Four is a great accomplishment, you're absolutely right. I have no problem with them being tremendously proud of making it so far. But rings are associated with championships. When Boatright says he wanted to come back for his senior year to get his degree and another ring, I don't think this is what he had in mind.

Give your kids plaques, hold a ceremony celebrating the accomplishment. I say the previous sentence with no sarcasm. But giving out rings is foolish. Do all programs do this for Final Fours?

Yes - including UConn. (We just rarely hear about those rings because...)

Making it to a Final Four is worthy of a ring - most of them say Final Four and then West Regional Champion or something.

Nothing wrong with that at all.

It's ridiculous even when UConn does it. Oh well, agree to disagree.
