Imho its possible he might not be back at uk next year and will bolt for the nba to take the NY Knick job if Phil Jackson doesnt take it. If squid doesnt win with this team the uk fanbase is going to be calling for blood. if you remember last season when they lost in the final four to uconn some of there fans were calling for squid to leave. i think this season the rumblings could be worse and if phil turns down the knicks and they make a call to uk i think squid goes. anyone see this as a possible or even likely scenario?

it was only a small fraction that called for him to be gone, and i agree that the idea will get more momentum. The vast majority of that fanbase sees him as a god though. It will likely become a pretty divided fanbase on the issue and really funny to watch them squirm.

There is zero doubt that every year that passes without a NC the % of WildScat fans who want him gone will grow. The better question is when will that number grow large enough to force him out?

The issue, of course, will be with the method that he is using - target a bunch of 1 and dones, hope 1 stays around each year (TJ), and see if you can make it to the finals with an unseasoned bunch of hypertalented frosh.

If he doesn't win it all this year, with THREE players who are likely going to go top eleven or so in the draft, plus Lamb, who will go at the end of the 1st roundish, plus Smith, who has a shot at playing in the NBA, then when will he ever do it?

Winning this year, on the other hand, would create great incentive for others to copy his system - if they can.

I really want Calipari to go to the NBA but the Knicks interim coach has them playing great and that is not helping to get Calipari to the Knicks. If he keeps them winning like they have an does well in the playoffs, they will probably keep him as coach next season.

I might be in the minority but i dont think he will make the mistake of jumping to the NBA again. As it is hes already getting paid a lot at UK so he wont jump for that much more $$$. Plus if he fails again, no other NCAA job would compare to Kentucky. Rick Pitino would be a good example.

I agree. I don't think he's going any where. And I think UK is going to win it this year as much as don't want that to happen.

anyone who is close to calipari knows he wants to coach in the nba. i believe he can be a good nba coach. he coached in nj wrong place at the wrong time and he doesnt want that to be his nba legacy. make no mistake win or lose this year i think although far from certain its a real possibility that if he gets an offer he`ll go if its the right situation.

It must be so hard to be a casual/moderate Kentucky fan. The entire team is new every year, its impossible to keep up without being a decently into it. Half of their fans probably dont even know the names of the kids on a year in year out basis. Like my mom for instance, shes catches about half of uconn games but she will recognize AO or something from last year or the year before and catch up on the couple new frosh. In Kentucky you have to learn a new team for the most part each year.

There is one thing you're missing. Calipari's huge ego. He is viewed as a failure as an NBA coach and that can't sit well with him. Guys like him are always looking for a challenge and if the NBA doesn't work out, he'd get another top college job in a second.

Doubt Kentucky loses. Too many answers. They are clearly the best team. But.... That's why they play the games.

What? I dont even follow Kentucky basketball and I know their players. You think those toothless hicks who have nothing else to do but cook meth and not work have a hard time keeping up with it?

You have to get some breaks to win a national championship, and there's no guarantee they'll do it this year, but holy duck that team is good. Kill Calipari all you want but he has an absolute monster going in Lexington. And we would all be ******* in our pants if that was the lineup UConn was rolling out every night.

Yeah I guess we don't target one and dones at UCONN. What's Drummond by the way, and if the top 5 rated players in HS wanted to come here we wouldn't take them if they were academically qualified? How he gets them I don't know but it's quite a trick.

I sympathize with the original sentiment. I would find it harder to root for kids coming through the revolving door, whether we're talking about UConn or Kentucky. It doesn't matter.

We just don't "get" one and dones. But we go after them.

It's not like Calhoun would tell Unibrow "Look, Anthony, you're an absolute freak, what with your ability to play center, handle the ball like a point guard, run like a sprinter, shoot jump shots, block every shot and dunk everything within 10 feet of the rim - and it's great that you're the best player in college basketball as a freshman - but we hear you're probably a one and done and that just wouldn't fly at UConn."

i agree with this. JC just has never been able to pull in the amount of elite preps as other coaches and i dont think anyone has done it like squid has and im including duke and unc. JC is not the type of personality thats going to have kids lining up to come here and i dont mind that at all. sure itd be great to get a uk level recruiting class here at uconn but we obviously dont need to if you look at what we`ve done over the last 15 years.
i dont know about you guys but i love a kid that comes in as a freshmen and contributes then gets better as a sophomore then becomes a star as a junior, wins a national title and becomes a lottery pick and leaves us with fond memories (rip, meka, ben, kemba). even if they dont win national titles but become great players then leave like the rays, donyells and carons to name a few there is something i love about just watching a kid grow with the program that really endears you to the player and makes the program just feel special. its fun to see what squid is doing at uk recruiting wise but at the end of the day how many national titles has he won with all that talent over the last 5 years?

He's been to 2 final fours and an elite 8 in his first three seasons, no? And season three isnt over yet. I'd say he's doing alright.

I like watching kids grow up too. But i also like teague, lamb, kidd-gilchrist, davis and terence jones as my starting 5.
