uconn is 320th OVERALL for rebounds per game.... :(

bad bad, just bad

Rebounds per game is a useless stat - it is a reflection more on tempo than it is on rebounding (the more shots taken, the more rebounds there are to be had).

Rebound margin is the one you want to look at. But we're not too great at that one either.

Its bad, no spin required. BE foes are licking their lips. I expect it to get ugly.

Lets just hope we make 70+% of our shots.

That can't be right - there are only like 345 division I teams...oh that's not good.

On the other hand we knew this was going to be a problem. We're getting out rebounded by about 6 a game but have a turnover margin of +4. If we can keep generating turnovers hopefully we'll give ourselves a fighting chance in most games.

Anyone know when the last time a Uconn team had a negative rebounding margin for a season?

Seems bout right since we have gotten outrebounded every game I think. But we are winning so I will take a wait and see approach as we head into BE play. Maybe Coach has a secret plan like the Jets have for Tebow

It's not all bad. Even though we've been out-rebounded by 58 (363-305), opponents have only taken 9 more shots (554-545). We have more blocks (53-31), more steals (82-63), and less turnovers (110-153). We've even made four more threes than opponents (56-52) and shot 33% to boot, while holding them to 32%. This team is the definition of "scrappy"! Think the coach has a future?:)!!

I feel better after reading arnie's post;)

There aren't many teams that can get outrebounded by 5 and win by 34 like we did yesterday lol. Our guards have done a superb job of pushing the pace and taking care of the ball

We go as far as the guards can bring us. If they have a bad day we lose most likely. If they have a good day we're in the ballgame.

We can make up for weak rebounding in a few ways:

1) Turnover margin (to increase the number of possessions)
2) 3-point shooting percentage (to increase the number of points per possession)
3) 3-point defense (to decrease opponents' points per possession)

We've been great at #1, extremely disappointing at #2 given how guard-oriented we are, and I don't have statistics on #3, though I'd venture to say our perimeter D has been average.

Look who we've played. UGH! If we can do this playing the Big East portion of the schedule, we can talk.

We played three top 25 teams or 30% of our games. We have an RPI of 24, so what's not to like? Please look at the topic and maybe see that the coaches are making the most of this situation- having a thin front court.

I have this feeling that if we were 0-9 we'd still be hearing what a great job Ollie is doing in an impossible situation. Facts are we've played a pretty weak schedule. sure we've played 3 decent teams, but the rest have been the usual pre-conference dreck. Good heavens, we should be 8-2 at this point. Anything worse would be cause for panic in the worst way. Stony Brook, Maryland Eastern Shore, New Hampshire, Quinnipiac, some of these places barely qualify as D1 basketball. Let's see what happens during the Big East season, when we have to match up against equal or better athletes night after night and we have zero to play for.
