Northern Illinois is talking smack. And why not? Everyone thinks they don' t belong and that the TV ratings will be dismal. Not now. I can't wait to watch how they perform vs Florida State. We need some of that swagger here. I hope our next HC installs a similar kick-ass attitude. PP needs to be off like a prom dress. This run up the middle and stoic sideline demeanor excites no one.

Can't decide if a NIU (MAC) win is good or bad for UConn in terms of CR perception. Now that the BE is scattered to the wind, I'm not sure it matters.

A group of 5 win, justifies it's BCS bid but a NIU win further craps on NE FB and weakens the ACC, a potential future home.

What? It's just a football game. If NIU wins the story will just be that Florida State couldn't get motivated to play a MAC school. Tomorrow everyone will go back to ignoring Northern Illinois.

As I said in another thread. There is no buzz on the FSU side. Players look bored. Nothing would surprise me.

sounds like it's eerily similar to when we beat South Carolina in the Pizza bowl

sounds like it's eerily similar to when we beat South Carolina in the Pizza bowl.. Honestly, I thought after that victory I thought our program would take it's next step to prominence ( winning more recruiting battles ... of the upper 3 star... maybe a 4 star or two variety )... didn't happen...

.-.
Part of the reason is we lacked the swagger to capitalize on that victory against South Carolina. A few choice quotes about the SEC would have made the post game reports. Nothing is worse than being boring. A few Desi Cullen like voices are sorely needed. If others are ignoring you, it's time to make some noise. We need to become interesting.

No kidding. instead when "Boring Coach I" gets the program to the next level (the Fiesta Bowl) he isn't able to score a single TD that day (the only program win or lose that day) is is replaced after his bail by "Even More Boring Coach II soon thereafter. End of momentum, end of UConn's rise. Paul Pasqualoni could not have been a worse hire. Why could so few see it and why has he been allowed to continue.

It's amazing that people to follow CFB haven't realized it's a glorified soap opera. The narrative is much more important than the result of any game. Since currently rooting for the FB team isn't available, the best we can hope for is the best narrative that helps our overall cause. These narratives are built over time, but snapshots can have a large effect on the perception of lightly seen programs and leagues. UConn is the freaking poster child for that.

TOUCHDOWN Other Huskies!!!!

We got a ballgame.

love it!!! some great games 2day. go huskies!!!!! if fsu wins, whaler will claim them co national champs.:p

NIU took a BEATING in the first half. But there's no quit in these guys. Athletically way overmatched but only down 7 now with the ball. 8:00 3rd qtr. Lynch all heart > Another NIU First Down.

Ooooh tough call on the fumble. Hopes fading for the Other Huskies.

FSU stockpiling talent for years. Found the perfect matchup with their speed and size advantage. Lynch didn't come out sharp but this was too much against NIU's OL. FSU a better team than in the past but would rather see them against somebody that can hit back like Stanford earlier today. Best win was Clemson but lost to NC State and FL. Fwiw FSU looks like a bunch of bodybuilders with speed.

I can't put my finger on why FSU isn't a "better" team than they are. I would guess the coach and the quarterback are the reasons for that.

FL State was the better team especially in the trenches, but I must say I was surprised at the NIU QB's performance. I somehow expected a lot more from Jordan Lynch than what he showed.

One lesson to be learned. . . . when these Huskies got to a big bowl they went "balls to the wall" and pulled out every gadget and played wide open on offense. When our Huskies went to the Fiesta, their offense was right out of the sixties. Run, run, run, punt and hope the defense can hold 'em. Heck the defense did more offensive work than the offense.

This quote from an SI article about the game really made me laugh.

The most telling moment of the night came in the fourth quarter, when Florida State fans actually mustered up the gall to chant, "Overrated" at Northern Illinois. After years of seeing high rankings turn into subsequent disappointments, FSU fans managed to become more inexplicable than the team itself.

I think Edsall thought he could win the game straight. Boise (and NIU) knew they probably couldn't 9 out of 10 times.

You do what gives you the best chance to win. We were a running team so we ran the ball. Did it work? No. Neither did NIU's strategy. At some point talent usually wins out.

The funny thing is the NIU 'swagger' hurt them. If you are playing FSU just let them show up flat, why poke the bear. Now they claim he was misquoted. Sure after the game where you got destroyed....

If you recall, Zach was so shaky and insecure at that point that his passes looked like a 7 year old girl was throwing them. He was terrible. My son looked at me at one point after Zach threw a wobbly and ridiculous wounded duck pass and said "sorry dad". He knew we had no chance. He was 10 at the time. Randy played the hand he was dealt in that game. If Zach was the player he was against South Carolina the year before, we would have had a chance.
