She reminds me of Renee and I enjoyed RM20 at UConn

Why do you like to relive all the old comments that you see as overly critical? There's a Bria love-fest going on right now (rightly so) but you need to drag this up again?

Bria is a stud and an AA in-the-making. She's amazingly talented, fearless and uber competitive a la Diana. In short, she's a big-time winner! :)

She is clearly UConn's floor leader. Doris B. suggested that coach A blasted KML for not taking an open shot(s). IMO, KML, being the freshman that she is, merely deferred to the player who was making shots, BH.

But, BH wasn't just making shot she was also doing all of the other little things that kept UConn in contention.

Is there anyone who seriously believes that BH isn't the point guard and floor leader for this team?

Coach A needs to seriously stop trying to build up other players (i.e., SD/CD), while giving the appearance of ignoring the fact that BH, Tiff and KML are the real strength of this team.

Like I said in the beginning. She's our best player.

IMO, she's already better than a senior Renee. She still turns the ball over a bit much, but she's being asked to do a lot and she's just a sophomore.
 
In a game such as last night's, with quick, active, opposing defenders, Bria Hartley is much more effective handling the balll/point than Caroline Doty. There are not many teams out there with Baylor's ability on the perimeter. so, Caroline should be effective in every game not involving Baylor. I feel that Hartley helps the team more playing off the ball.

Renee as a senior was:

a) a three years running team captain and the leader on a team that featured two of thre greatest players in WCBB history.
b) first-team AA
c) had a 2:1 A:TO ratio while averaging 16.5 PPG...again, playing alongside two of the greatest players in CBB history. Bria is 14.9 PPG with a 1.34/1 A:TO ratio.

Bria absolutely could be better than Renee when all is said and done. She's not there yet.

Alex is right. But I think it is fair to say that Bria is at least as good as Renee was as a sophomore. Bria is not even 50 games into a 150+ (hopefully) career. She is already very good and certainly clutch.

That's definitely an admissable argument (though Renee's 13.3 PPG for the 2006-07 season and 1.72 A:TO ratio were nothing to sneeze at). Renee was a combo guard that became progessively more dominant as a PG over time. Bria is a terrific scorer and against most teams a very solid PG (better than last season, and yes, even with CD back in the lineup she's still running point a lot of the time), but she did not respond well when Baylor kicked the defensive pressure up a notch. Renee would have as a senior- probably not as a soph.

I think Renee's shot selection and shooting percentage increased and were good by her senior year. How do her percentages compare with Bria's?
 
Renee's overall FG% didn't increase that much between her sophomore and senior campaigns (though she dipped as a junior, so she did jump significantly up from 2007-08), but she became a much more effective three-point shooter as a senior- 31% to 38% while attempting more than she ever had. That was actually what caused her FG% to dip as a junior- she took more threes (presumably at Geno's behest) but didn't hit them at a higher percentage than as a soph. Bria's shooting at a torrid pace so far this season (52% overall, 42% from three-point range). If she can keep that up and become a more proficient ball distributor, she will be a nightmare.

You don't think playing alongside Maya and Tina helped Renee? I do. I'll admit, I was never a Renee fan (although I appreciated her more her senior season, and like her a lot more as a pro) but it's just what I think from watching them. Bria as a sophomore is better.
 
I agree. ANy scoring Renee did was gravy. She definitely wasn't the primary or secondary offensive threat. Bria is. If teams have to worry about Maya AND Tina, Renee is getting looks. Bria has Stef, who isn't the scoring threat Tina was, and Tiff, who is streaky and not the scoring threat Maya was. Bria has much more responsibility to start the offense, look for her shot, find open players, guard quicker guards, etc. When Geno took her out last night it was tough to tell where our points were coming from.
