In all of this conference expansion craziness, I have always felt that when the dust settled UConn would end up OK...in the ACC as part of one of the 5 power conferences. However, I am officially off that bandwagon now...I don't like how the future is looking at this point. (I know....maybe I am just slow, or too optimistic if I am just realizing this now).
Here is what I see happening:
In the next few months the following additions will take place:
B1G adds: Virginia, UNC
SEC adds: Virginia Tech, NC State
B12 adds: Clemson, FSU, Miami, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Cincinnati
ACC adds: UConn, Temple, UCF, USF, Houston, SMU
This would be bad for UConn, but not the end of the world. However, I think within 5 years, the PAC 12 eventually moves and the B12 implodes. Three super conferences emerge with these additions:
B1G adds: Notre Dame, BC, Georgia Tech, Duke
SEC adds: Clemson, West Virginia, FSU, Miami
PAC adds: Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Ok St, Kansas, Kansas St, BYU, Nevada
The ACC then takes the leftovers and forms a 20 team league which is the 'best of the rest' national conference:
ACC adds : Baylor, TCU, Iowa St, UNLV, Memphis, Boise St, Air Force, San Diego St, Fresno St
Conference Expansion will then be done and UConn is left on the outside looking in. Game. Set. Match.
Hope I am wrong...just don't feel to optimistic at this point.
