Totally disagree. Seeing a #16 seed ECU beating #1 seed Duke would be the new opportunity for upsets that would excite fans. The NCAA tournament is worth almost nothing in TV dollars without the 12-16 seeds there for upsets. If the football schools want to break away like that, they can kiss the tournament money goodbye.
If you go back in time, there was the NIT and the NCAA tournament and the NIT was the more prestigious tournament. Things changed and the NCAA tournament became the more prestigious tournament.
Things change over time and UConn’s leadership has never been good at being ahead of the curve. Does anyone really think UConn’s leadership has predicted what the future holds and made the right bet? History would say otherwise.
