Uconn's margin on TO is 11.8 per game (and that includes steals, offensive fouls, etc.), and their Offensive Rebounding advantage is 1.1 so basically 13 more offensive possessions per game. That lines up with their having taken 12.6 more shots than their opponents, with their slight advantage in two shot fouls accounting for any discrepancy. The numbers are staggering , 320 between 6 players. I wonder what Uconn's steals measure is against all schools? With Uconn's turn-over rating being high, I believe Uconn gets an additional 30/40 % more shots at the basket and 90+ total score per game. Defense is the key to success and nobody does it better than Uconn. GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!
Great minds!Husky's are on track to obliterate the team season steal record of 477 (97-98). They are at 378 now (15.75 a game). 40 games gets them to 630.
Same thing for the Assist record (863 in 16-17). They are at 592 now (24.67 a game ). 40 games gets them to 986.
Geez, while I was writing.
Nan, I like your hook in the Thread Title. 😆
I think that is most impressive for K9 and Blanca since they probably average just under 20 mpg....
Thank you so much for the stats. I enjoyed them very much.Uconn's margin on TO is 11.8 per game (and that includes steals, offensive fouls, etc.), and their Offensive Rebounding advantage is 1.1 so basically 13 more offensive possessions per game. That lines up with their having taken 12.6 more shots than their opponents, with their slight advantage in two shot fouls accounting for any discrepancy.
Uconn has taken 1598 shots to date, so 66.6/game and their opponents have taken 1296 at 54/game - 13 more shots/54 shots per game = 24% more shots than their opponent give or take on the two shot fouls.
This really does not surprise me. UConn defensive activity is intense and it never stops. Coach after coach repeats that they cannot properly prepare because they can't duplicate it. So opponents offenses are put under pressure in a high speed game. Errors go up and TOs soar.. Then too we have a few players who put some extra sauce in and are fairly constantly ball hawking with great hands. Azzi, KK and of course the iresistable force Sarah time it, get the ball on the rise and are gone. Every time I'm sitting there saying how did she do that. I love the balance of this team's O and D.4 of the top 6, and 6 of the top 15!
Uconn has 378 steals through 24 games - 15.75/game.
The Uconn record for steals 477 belongs to 1997-98 so this team needs 100 to break that record. At the current rate that would happen during their 7th game, so in their game at St Johns to end the regular season.
The gold standard for thievery at Uconn is 100+ only accomplished 9 times by Sale x3, Rita Williams x2, Moriah x2, Rizzotti, and Gabby. Sales has the record at 143 in 1996-97. Strong with 81 (3.375/gm) is on pace to break 100 in 6 games. And she is likely to move into 2nd all time in ten games, passing Rizzotti's 112. She would need to increase her pace to match Nykesha's even if we reach 40 games this season.
KK needs 35 to tie Gabby with 100 and is currently at 2.71/game - she would need 13 games at that pace with a possible of 16 games left she may get there. Azzi needs 43, and currently is at 2.375 - she would need a 43 game season (not in the cards!) to reach 100, but if she ups her steals to 2.7 per game the rest of the way, she would make it if we play in the championship games of both the Big East and NCAA tournaments.
NB Assists are also in Uconn record territory. Currently they are at 24.67 per game and 592 for the season. The record at Uconn is 863 in 2016-17. They need 272 to break that record and it will take 11.02 games to break it - likely the first or second round game in the NCAA. But no player is likely to crack the top 10 individually or the 200 assist gold standard. If KK maintains her A/TO through the end of the season she would break that record of 3.52 by Paige last year - she is currently at an absurd 4.04.
Are we going to see any of the three leaders in postseason?UConn is currently 4th in the nation with 15.8 steals per game, less than 1 steal per game behind MT St, Utah Valley & Cal St Fullerton who leads the nation with 16.7 steals per game.
