Huskies in the Pros (Baseball)

Damn. Been looking forward to seeing Reggie in the Show. Now have to wait till at least mid-season '26.

Damn

The San Francisco Giants announced on Thursday that left-handed prospect Reggie Crawford (shoulder) had surgery on Thursday to fix the labrum in his left shoulder. The surgery was performed in Los Angeles by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. The estimated recovery time for Crawford is 10-12 months, so he is not going to be able to pitch in 2025. The Giants' first-round pick in 2022 will enter spring training in 2026 having thrown a total of 37 1/3 professional innings. Crawford, 23, was previously recovering from Tommy John surgery, so this will be the second major surgery the youngster has had early in his career. MLB Pipeline lists Crawford as the team's No. 9 prospect The Giants moved Crawford to a relief role in 2024 at Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento and had a 2.95 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 30 strikeouts in 18 1/3 frames over 14 outings (one start).

IYKYK:

Probably one of two choices for multi-inning reliever/spot starter next year.

Pirates have so much pitching in AAA and AA they'll have to trade/bundle some for an actual hitter eventually.

Would have possibly led Uconn to their 1st CWS Appearance prior to signing with the Pirates.

They(arms like these) don’t grow on trees. Need more then one per cycle so you can get one a cycle to sign and help get over the proverbial hump of Super Regionals.

Wishing Burrows well in Pittsburgh.

The Pirates have been the culprit is a couple of these situations. They drafted Burrows in 2018 an also Owen Kellington in 2021. Both were UConn commits. Both would have been very useful arms for teams that made it to the NCAA tournament.

And I believe the Diamondbacks got a steal this past year.

Kellington's had a rough go with injuries even before the TJ surgery in May. Hope he makes it back, but won't see him until late '25 or more likely '26. At least he'll still be 23 in two years which even in A ball is an acceptable age.

Quality college teams will have incoming recruits selected in the MLB draft from time to time. While the college team will no doubt miss not having these players on the team, it does show that the team is no doubt well regarded in the college game considering they are getting recruits that end up going pro. Hopefully these teams also end up getting quality recruits who end up joining the team.

Devin kirby is still grinding it out in the minor leagues, I'm surprised he even got signed out of college. He always struck me as an odd ball
