Little love to Mike Olt for his homerun over the Green Monster last night.

Chicago Cubs third baseman Mike Olt spent some of his childhood days in Fenway Park thinking about what it would be like to hit a homer over the Green Monster.

He made that dream a reality Wednesday night.

Olt, who grew up in Branford, Connecticut, attended UConn and made a nearly 2½ hour trek to Boston a handful of times to watch the Red Sox, belted a two-run homer, one of four hit by Cubs in a 16-9 rout that completed a three-game interleague series sweep.

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't," Olt said when asked if he ever dreamed about hitting one over Fenway's fabled wall. "We used to go to games up here and Yankee Stadium. It's big for me and nice to have the family here to see it."

Branford is one of the best towns in CT too.

People might also remember Brian Sager who attended Branford High-Ranked as the fourth best high school player in the country by Baseball America and the ninth best prospect in the entire June Amateur Baseball Draft in 1998.

The UCONN guys can hit a ton of home runs, but hopefully get ca get their averages up a little. Springer batting .240 and Olt batting .150 as of July 3rd, 2014

With the home runs and walks he gets, Springer is a quality offensive player hitting .240. If he gets his average up 30 or so points, that would be tremendous. Olt definitely needs to spike his average in order to stick around.

this is a tough one. What's going to happen next for Olt? With the best player in the minors hogging 3rd base, Kris Bryant, I guess you DH mike until he figures it out? I also read that they'll put Bryant in the OF and then move Olt back to third. He's a resilient and smart kid so I hope he puts it all together. This might be a good thing right-he'll get some more ABs.

Matt Barnes

Matt Barnes, Boston’s first-round pick in 2011, made his major-league debut against theBaltimore Orioles Tuesday night, throwing three scoreless innings of relief and notching two strikeouts. However, Barnes was pitching in a hole as Baltimore roughed up starter Anthony Ranaudo for four runs in 3 1/3 innings. The Orioles won 4-1.

Didn't see the game but from the Courant article it sounds like Barnes is going to be a good one. They are going to use him in relief this year to keep his total inning under 140 for the year. If he keeps it up he'll make the rotation next year which would be pretty cool. 1st UConn alum to play for the Sox sincce Dropo!
