Hurley statement on Jax/Newton

Good article. It’s chess not checkers. We build things the right way. Love hurley. With that being said, “Andre please run it back”. Lol
I think Newton will be back. Jackson should go he is at peak value

What's the alternative? Pull a K and tell some kid he's ruining the program?

Of course Hurley is and all of us should be behind these kids. If they make it, awesome. The very worst? They come back and improve their draft position next year

Andre would have preferred returning. He genuinely cares about the program. Hurley knows this and is doing everything he can to move Andre forward.

It has a potential negative impact next year for UConn/Hurley. And yet Dan’s made the decision to put Andre first. A lot of coaches would not have been so magnanimous. The respect and care that Andre and Dan have for one another runs deep.

There’s a hall of fame coach that did something similar to this. JC had Freeman switch to the three the year after the first NC. He was an undersized four by NBA standards of the time but was tremendous playing it at UConn.

It arguably impacted that year’s results. Some fans were really upset by that decision. It didn’t matter to them he was barely able to walk after playing his heart out and was cramping in the NC game. But JC stuck with it.

One of the podcasters after our getting number five was absolutely befuddled in trying to come up with an explanation as to why UConn has had the success rate they’ve had since 99. Especially when comparing it to other equally or more successful programs. He could not come up with a rational explanation and if you think about it it does defy logic.

I’m of the belief that these type of unselfish acts might be part of the answer.

Not that it surprises me in the slightest but it’s great to see Dan Hurley support his guys.

As loath as I am to say anything nice about the Squid, I recently saw a video of Boogie Cousins talking about when he told Cal he wanted to return to UK. Cal told him “If you want to take care of your family, leave. If you want to take care of my family, stay.” Good stuff.

Yup, and same as Calhoun kicking Caron out despite how bad he wanted to stay. It’s very necessary to be this kind of coach and it’s great to see Dan Hurley supporting his guys in this way.

I wonder if there’s any tea leaves there about supporting Andre giving it his all in these workouts. Almost like Andre wouldn’t because he wants to come back?

Nate Oats is not a fraud. He is part of the Hurley coaching tree and is damn good at what he does. He was faced with an impossible situation when it came to Miller because he coaches at an SEC school that puts winning at the expense of morals.
Would Hurley have reached out to Ray Lewis for moral guidance?

And then bragged about it?

Is that true?

"Krzyzewski badly wanted Avery back for one more year, his junior season, to help groom incoming freshman Jason Williams and give Duke some depth in the backcourt. So when Avery promised him he would return, Duke still looked like the team to beat in 2000. But Avery did not keep his word. He entered the draft and went to Minnesota on the fourteenth pick, right after Maggette. That led to the controversy and a story in ESPN The Magazine that infuriated Dukies everywhere.

The basis of the ESPN article was a meeting between Krzyzewski and Avery's mother, who traveled to Durham from her home in August, Georgia, where she lived just above the poverty line and worked at a power plant until she got laid off. That Avery might turn pro miffed Krzyzewski because he had made a personal commitment to helping him and thought he owed Duke another year.

'Your son is going to **** up my program', Krzyzewski told Terry Simonton, Avery's mother, according to the magazine story. 'Coach K got bad-mouth, rude, personal. He forgot who he was talking to,' Simonton was quoted...'Coach K is selfish. He talks about a so-called close Duke family. But he just wants to protect his program. He lied to us about where Williams would go in the draft. Late in the first round? Maybe even second round? Come on. Even I could pick up the papers and read he was going earlier than that.' "

JC supported everyone who left early except for one, Josh Boone. I remember him saying something like "Josh is listening to someone else, not me"

He used to say "it's all about your second contract". If you signed a second contract, I suppose you're set for life.
