Hurley Says UConn and Kansas Have Discussed Multi-Year H/H Series

“I was never told I was playing Kansas,” Hurley clarified Saturday. “We were told, I think, or we were assuming, that we would play a Baylor or a Kansas, or – one of the top teams from the Big 12, a Houston. … That was never something that we were told and then they flipped it on us, at least from my standpoint.”

“We are in conversations with Kansas to do a two-year, potentially, or a four-year home-and-home type of thing,” he said. “They’ve been communicating pretty openly with us about potentially doing that. I don’t think that they tried to avoid the game.”

Norlander talked about this on his podcast, Kansas backed out due to travel

Self is denying that.

Previously, coach Bill Self denied his involvement in avoiding any non-conference road-games scheduling choices. “I’ve never heard that. My scheduler never shared that with me.” This was after some of the sources claimed Self “clearly didn’t want it.”

UConn Leaves Bill Self Cornered as Dan Hurley Hunts Relentlessly for No.1 NCAA Crown

The article quotes Mark Zannetto from his podcast. Does he really have sources at UConn? I'm just wondering why there are a lot of articles (e.g. the SI ones on recruiting) that quote him. Seems anyone can have a podcast these days but just having a podcast doesn't make you a legitimate source.

They were too busy getting blasted at Creighton.

Would love:

Year one: Lawrence
Year two: Storrs
Year three: Kansas City
Year four: MSG
I would rather flip those given that they just blew off a game at Storrs.

Year 1 should be Storrs.
We went to Lawrence last year and they ducked us this year. We should not play twice in Lawrence before they play at UCONN.
REMEMBER UCONN is a Blue Blood and we take a back seat to ABSOLUTELY NO ONE!!!

Yeah, I don't know where Norlander got that, but in the history of the challenge no team has ever played the same team in back to back years. It's not how it works. I'm sure the conferences thought it might be cool to do it. It's more likely that the other teams in the Big XII would be pissed because they want a chance to play UConn. Playing at Creighton isn't fun as KU found out.

Would obviously be thrilled if we had a home and home with Kansas. I suggested here last year that if UConn fans showed up in Lawrence last November, KU would be interested in a home and home series. We definitely did that, really impressive showing.

One year in Lawrence, one year in Storrs.
And then one year in MSG, one year in Lawrence Regional Airport

These discussions don’t suggest a Big12 invite is in the mail.
Just to be devils advocate here, there were games scheduled between the old PAC 12 and new Big 12 teams in football which obviously didn’t prevent that from happening. Arizona @ Kansas State and Baylor @ Utah this year were both non-conference games

Exactly. These games should be Storrs and Lawrence period. Why play in Kansas City instead of one of the most iconic arenas in the sport? And why go out of state to MSG for our “home” game?
Agreed. It sucked losing in Lawrence last year but that game in Allen Fieldhouse had an amazing buzz and environment. Gampel can be similar for big games. Why go anywhere else when you can play in those two facilities?
