From Borges. So what are you all looking for in next week's game? Is it still too early to look at lineups and combinations? Are you going to concentrate on certain players and how they've improved? Looking forward to seeing the freshmen in game situations? It's only an exhibition but it has to be worth something.

"It definitely feels early," Hurley said on Monday, following a Q&A alongside Geno Auriemma and hosted by ESPN's Seth Greenberg. "Strategically, you want to get one under your belt, identify certain things, and give yourself enough time to work at stuff before Michigan State. It feels early, the season starts early, but now you give yourself some time in between what it could look like at Mohegan to the one that's going to be right before the season starts."

Dan Hurley preparing for UConn's preseason game vs. BC next week: 'Definitely feels early'

This game is not televised?
It is in Boston on NBCSports Boston. Come on up and we'll have a watch party! 😀 Do Connecticut cable and streaming services have NBCSports Boston?

Someone mentioned that the URI game last year, which was also on NBCSports Boston, was simulcast on the UConn online station (forgot what it's called). If that is true I'd imagine they'll do the same this year but I haven't seen anything on that.

I’m hopping we can watch it on the NBC Boston website

Oddly available on NBC Sports Boston on Cox in CT but not on Xfinity in MA without an upgrade
Yeah Xfinity did that back in January. They took NESN and NBASports Boston off the regular cable tier and make you pay for a higher level cable package if you want those sports stations. The gym I go to refused to pay more so no NESN or NBCSports there. I've been to some bars that have done the same so no Sox or Celtics games there. Seems strange not to have the games from those 2 teams on at a local Boston bar.

Nobody wants to talk about what they're interested to see in this game? Rough crowd. At least Joe Arruda of the Hartford Courant indulged me.

The final starting spot will likely come down to sharpshooting five-star freshman Braylon Mullins and Jaylin Stewart, a junior determined to make a consistent impact in his third year with the program. Both have shown to be more-than-capable offensive pieces but, as seems to be the theme of the season, defense will be the ultimate separator.

Curious to who Hurley rolls out as the first starting lineup.

How Solo’s guard development is going

How Demary handles balancing facilitating with scoring

The battle on the wings with Braylon, Stewart, and Ross. How do they look offensively? Who is the best defender of the group?

Also how Reibe looks. Can he look like a capable backup center?

Really happy to hear what I had hoped. It’s going to about defense. We should have plenty of scoring from all angles.

Hurley:
When you lack in defense, you lack in will,” he said after an event promoting his book, “Never Stop: Life, Leadership and What It Takes To Be Great,” last Wednesday.

“When you’re hovering around top-100 defense in the country, you lack will. You lack a fight. And right now, I challenge this team to fight every day in practice,” he said. “That was a huge part in the ’23 and ’24 teams, and in today’s basketball you can’t take for granted that your team’s gonna have that. So I’m making sure that I coach my team to have that. So yes, I’m fighting with them right now. And you can see some of them were sad in here. But my job is to drive the team.”

It'll be good to have UConn basketball back, but it's a weird year where the 8 man rotation is pretty much set with no question marks and the starting lineup also seems pretty set, but I'll give it a shot

  • How does Koroma look as the emergency center
  • Who has the leg up on the potential 9th man race between Furphy and Ross
  • How do the 2 PG lineups look with Smith and Demary
  • Can Reibe hold up defensively

Interested to see if guard defense passes eye test relative to expectations, braylon vs stewart starting spot battle, and how Reibe does as the backup big.

Do we know if mich state game will be televised? Dont see TV details on that one.

I think all the streaming services in CT Hulu, Youtube, sling... carry NBC sports Boston. Just because I have 100s of channels on Hulu doesn't mean there's anything to watch. Iended up rewatching the Patriots- Bills game last night just because there was nothing else on. I hate rewatching games that I know the outcome of.

I like this list. I think we can hope to see something in answer to all these points. With regard to Koroma, I am curious if they will try to use him as anything other than a third string center. In one of the little clips we have been given, it looked like there was also a center on the court in the same team jersey. Since Reibe shoots from outside, and Reed is supposedly able to, maybe there is a role for Koroma under the boards when we try and draw the opposing center out of the paint to guard our center.

With the staff needing real game feedback on all these same players, I don't expect much time at all for the deep bench. If there is some garbage time I'd like to see a glimpse of Jacob Ross, Elezej, Millender, and Paunovic. I don't expect any of them to get any bonafide time in the real games so I'm just hoping to get enough of a look to understand who they might be as players. I have seen enough of Jacob Ross in person to believe he could contribute if there wasn't so much talent in front of him. I said in one of these threads that to me he is very much like Lasan Kromah. In clips Elezej looks better than I thought he would. Do we have something there? I don't know. I suspect Millender can play if there are injuries but I'd like to see him in person. Paunovic I have no on the court impression of. I'm hoping for maybe 3 minutes of these guys. With so little time for Hurley to get answers about other players and lineups, I fear I will have to rely on the pregame warm up line as my only viewing of these guys.

Easier to bet on them though.

You missed a great Yankees comeback

I’ll add Demary’s comfort in the system to the list. It’s a huge change coming from such a basic and ugly system at UGA. I think a lot of early season success will be dependent on how well he’s picked that up this offseason or whether it takes him a bit of real game time to get to the level Hurley needs him at.
