Hurley postgame presser

Hurley is not sugarcoating anything. The locker room is not in a good place. Seems like it’s a mix of egos re: playing time and guys not taking losses to heart.

Not sure who Hurley is talking about but if I had to guess I’d say Mahaney.

The one foot out the door guys are likely pretty obvious, a mix of transfers, sophs and frosh. It was good to hear that Solo takes the losses to heart.

Fully presser

One of the more interesting of recent. You can feel his frustration.

Seems like Nowell is setting up to get some playing time next game.

TBH, from what I’ve seen body language wise both in games on the bench and even the one time I saw him go through pregame warm ups, he did not seem too engaged.

But if I was him and had trouble finding the court while a transfer comes in and gets every chance to stink it up, I’d be kind of over it too.

As Hurley said at the end of the press conference, now is the time for those players to put the past behind them and to find the mental toughness within them to attack this part of the season and to try to add value to the team. He included players who are disappointed and players who have been a disappointment.

Given the comments today the off season and portal will be fascinating
Sure will - buckle your seat belt!

The thing is that if you have too many of the foot out the door types sitting in your locker room boy is that toxic.

Nowell has consistently been injured this year. I'd love to see what he can do in a Husky uniform if he's healthy.

But, yes, I expect big roster turnover from players who still have eligibility. Players have had all the off season and 2/3 of this season to make their case for for playing time and, honestly, no one on the roster is irreplaceable.

Most kids improve from year to year, how much is up to them. Remember the soph class didn't get much PT last year, now at least they have some valuable game time experience. Hurley will have to make that evaluation, that's why he gets the big bucks.
This low or zero playing time for freshmen will not work in this era. Based on the oft quoted "playing time is earned in practice we have to assume that Nowell stinks and Abraham should be back in high school. This seems like a punishment to me. He never even gets garbage time minutes. I don't get it.

Not a lot of garbage time to be had this year, but the feet out the door quote likely applies here.

Lot of Dan Hurley quotes regarding the incoming class restocking “high end” talent that was never applied to this current class, meanwhile it included McNeeley. Apparently it’s not very high end apart from Liam.

Yeah. They play really slowly, so did UConn last year and it was the best college team I've ever seen. Three white guys started too.
Played slowly but moved constantly and fast on offense for that best shot.

The thing is I bet Ross wants to be more than a defensive stopper. He’s going to want to be at least a 3-4 option. He’s a 6’7” kid with NBA dimensions, he didn’t come to UConn to be a stopper, lol.
He can want all he wants, it’s about doing. He probably won’t start in front of Solo or the kid still in high school coming in at his position, so ummmm, I think he can be more than just a stopper but I won’t go to much further than that. I think he will be a good solid rotational piece, but all the kids want to make it to the NBA when they come in, it means nothing. Oh and I want millions of dollars too, what does that mean?

We may not have won a footrace, but in a basketball game, constant movement of both people and ball, great screens and cuts, quick and wise decision-making, and fast ball movement made up for not having guys who could dribble their way to a score.

Brea is not the answer to our problems.
Neither is A M, was Dan Hurley’s biggest off season priority and he’s unplayable. That’s all on Dan Hurley. We won back to back championships, we had the pick of the litter especially after turning down the Lakers job and Mahahey and Reed, and the two nonexistent recruits this year were supposed to replace 4 current NBA players and Ross is still with the team and Singare will never play. Thank him for the 2 ships but this team is poorly coached, can’t run an out of bounds play and wer’re probably not making the right tournament if any tournament after the arrogance of talking 3 peat all off season. He got lucky, with Cam Spencer who wasn’t his first choice and caught lightning in a bottle with DC. We just lost to a team that was 1-11 in league play and in a 9 game losing streak while we’re trying to solidify our post season position and delusional fans are talking about winning the BE. Seriously… think about that. This was inexcusable and possibly ends our chances for a berth in the tournament worse case. 7 point lead with 40+ seconds left in regulation 5 point lead with 30+ seconds left in overtime and lost because they apparently haven’t practiced an In bounds play all year. JMHO.

Not necessarily. Last year Pitino was able to motivate his team by basically saying they were soft, and Mick Cronin woke up his team this year with similar comments.
Cronin said the same stuff last year and they finished 16-17.

we went into this season thinking we had too many mouths to feed and not enough minutes to go around. now i feel like we have too many minutes to go around.

you could tell me we return 8 guys next year or 2 and i'd believe it. but that's the off-season's problem. still games to win. nova is a can't-lose
