Hurley media presser

Awesome. Thanks for posting. I've been wondering for the last couple months when the media would be invited to practice for some updates. Glad to hear they may have an open practice for fans again this summer.

Edit: Just read today's practice was attended by 200 season ticket holders. Anyone on here go?

Don Hutson played WR for Green Bay. Dan Hurley coaches in Storrs. Mutley was a cartoon dog.

Not sure who Hutley is.
I'm going with it's the pseudonym that Hurley uses when he helps out Mora with the football team. ;)

Haven't you been following the narrative? We are all set at center regardless of any potential injuries or foul trouble. I've been told repeatedly not to be concerned. Just a minor situation, sit out 2 weeks and all will be well. For sure nothing similar could happen during the season, and even if it does, we evidently have a roster ready to handle the situation. /s

What would you have the staff do?

There isn't a third string center out there who is good enough and willing to sit on the bench 98% of the time.

There have been several backup centers that have committed this month to teams that already have centers on their rosters, Oregon a couple of days ago a 6'11 250lb Nigerian center playing in a Turkish league with athleticism and talent but with a starter in place and other bigs on the roster. If we can recruit 3 quality point guards to split 40 minutes we could have recruited a third center if we wanted one. Obviously the pickings have gotten thinner day by day and thus you are becoming right.

Bruh let it go. You wouldn’t be happy with whomever is available anyway

There are no other centers and injuries don’t exist are my favorite narratives

I don't think we could. We play two centers, that's it. Singare played 40 minutes and then 47 minutes his next season. The year before that Samson played 47 minutes.

If Reed or Reibe is in foul trouble or hurt we're going to go small.

I don't know why this keeps needing to be said, but Koroma is better than Singare. UConn is better at 3rd string center than it has been in the recent past.

Also, Reibe is "August hurt." You just saw him playing games on a too-frequent basis a couple of weeks ago. They just don't want a lingering injury.

Although this is a reminder that McNeeley sprained his ankle last summer and that foreshadowed a more significant injury later in the season. Perhaps we should take Reibe out back and shoot him. It should be easier to find a quality center if there is easier access to PT.

Alex is more ready than ever before from a physical standpoint to spend time at the five and surround him with a bigger team. Demary is going to be so helpful on the glass from what I saw in his highlights. We will be just fine with this roster. Yes another big would be nice but it does not make or break or season.

One of the journalists, I think it was Joe Arruda, said he anticipates another addition (possibly 2). Wonder if that's just reserved for a walk on or if there may be a late bench piece.

This is the reality. We already tried to recruit a true 3rd string center and 90% of our fanbase had a conniption and couldn't figure out why we were recruiting him. And that guy still had better offers than coming to UConn to play 20 minutes all year

I've said it before, some of the exceptionally spoiled here seem to think we are entitled to 3 deep starter quality at every position.

Remember when there was a thread about Singare being a “secret weapon” based on an 8 minute, 4 foul performance?

Mike Anthony article from yesterday's practice/scrimmage.

“You need Tarris to play like a version of Adama,” Hurley said. “You need Eric to have some type of impact. We know how to utilize two centers and get both of them to play at a high level. So the two-center combo that we've envisioned being successful, like we've been the last couple years, is that stuff all going to hit?"

What do we know about this UConn men's basketball team? 'On paper, it looks great'

Anthony spelling it Mullens must have drove you bananas

Last March, UConn men’s basketball captain Alex Karaban reflected on the previous summer, acknowledging that he didn’t work enough on improving his offensive variety and his strength on defense. He started feeling the consequences.

As long as he's not the team's leading scorer like in the summer practice scrimmage on Friday they'll be good. :) (It's a joke based on a comment from a poster in the "boxscore" thread).

Gotta love having all these articles to read in the middle of the summer. Granted if you watch the video of Hurley's media availability you get everything you need but it's still nice to have articles to read. Can't wait for the season to start!

“Braylon’s shooting is the first thing that stands out as well as his shot making that doesn’t involve just threes,” coach Dan Hurley said. “The fact he can make them off the dribble and shoot them from deep (is huge).”

I usually read every Courant article on UConn bball but sometimes it does get repetitive right after watching the full press video lol

Braylon is a scorer - think in the mold of Larry Bird mentality - the fact that he can hit from anywhere is huge for us, because we did not have that all last year.

Now if Solo can notch up to create his shot anywhere not just 3 or drive but stick some 2s more, then it's like having 2 plus shooting guards to pair with a savvy point guard, point forward Alek and the Bear!
