saw this on facebook and probably only UConn fans will appreciate it

"I’ve got a different perspective on Dan Hurley.
Over 20 years ago, he walked into my gym at Crispus Attucks in York, PA—just an assistant coach, recruiting some of my guys. No spotlight. No ego. Just humble, laid back, doing the work.
Back then, people didn’t talk about him like they do now.
He was the “other Hurley.”
Not Bobby Hurley. Not the Duke superstar.
He had his own road—one that wasn’t clean or easy.
Struggled as a player. Faced real mental battles. Had to rebuild himself.
And imagine that pressure…
Son of Bob Hurley Sr..
Little brother to a legend.
Trying to find your own name in a family where greatness already lives.
But here’s the part that matters—
He didn’t run from it. He built through it.
Now?
He is the standard.
A national champion. A culture builder. A future Hall of Famer.
People see the fire on the sideline.
The intensity. The edge.
But I’ll tell you what I saw before all of that—
A man who cared.
A man who was present.
A man who loved the game and the people in it.
And I’d bet everything on this:
He coaches them hard… because he loves them even harder.
That’s not hype.
That’s legacy."

I don't understand the second option:

Hurley is the UConn coach in 2031, and will be for less than 5 years

It's saying that Hurley will be here greater than or equal to five years but less than 10 years.

Hurley's first couple of seasons were with injured rosters of Ollie players. Of course we'll miss AK and of course he's huge for the program but we lost much better players than him and this thing kept on humming. Clingan and Castle left and we weren't talking about not making the second weekend without them. We obviously would've won 4 in a row had they stayed. If Cam got another year of eligibility we would've three-peated.

It's a program and the best program in the country, no one player is responsible for the success of it.
Danny, his staff and his family. He will find another great asst. coach and doubt if we change our offense just because Luke left. Looking forward to what he and staff are homing in on during the portal. He clearly communicates what they are looking for and expect. Very good if not great performance throughout the NCAA tournament. He continues to grow and his players love him. I'm already looking forward to following the BY and team during the off season. Thanks to all for contributing so much to this ongoing ride!

now that we are in the offseason, how long do we have Hurley?

Yes I know enjoy the good times but curious what everyone’s thoughts are with his comments on longevity/the NBA/etc.

His contract runs out in 2030 as of now.
I think is impossible to project anything in college basketball 5 years out. 5 years ago would have never guessed how the portal would change the game and the pac 12 would fold and the ACC would be on life support.

.-.
I say he's still here in 2036 but getting ready to retire. He'd be in his mid-60s and we know that age isn't what it used to be; however he approaches his job with such intensity that I can't see him doing this more than another decade. But who knows.

I also believe he would only leave for the NBA IF the Knicks job came open. But right now the timing is completely wrong; Dolan isn't going to fire Mike Brown (I don't think) for a few years and by that time the roster will be ageing out, which would make it tough for Hurley to have to go through a rebuild approaching, or in, his 60s. I also don't see him as the type of guy whose ego would lead him to obsess about coaching high end NBA players.

At the end of the day, Hurley and UCONN are basically the perfect match and as long as the money in his pocket and in the NIL banana stand continue to be right I don't think he's going anywhere.

(I found those UNC rumors hilarious. Hurley is SO not cut out for coaching in the South; the institutional politics are night and day and not in a good way IMO)

We can't take anything for granted. I still cant believe Jay Wright retired when he did. But I hope Hurley continues for another 10+ yrs

Maybe it's me, but for those first few seasons, it felt like Hurley thought of himself more like a guy serving as the head coach of a storied program, a temporary occupant of the job, rather than the program being "his".

Now he's built a hall of fame resume and his success is deeply rooted in UConn history. He's got the chance, with the university's help (not to mention the help of the state and all of us fans) to achieve his goals at the college level. Hurley arrived on campus with a huge chip on his shoulder, trying to measure up to the success of the family name. It's not much different than the chip we in Connecticut have long felt - constantly overlooked, taken for granted, sandwiched between NY and Boston. They took our Whalers, they're taking our Sun - we're a hard working group of people that for the last 40 years have built a good part of our state's identity around basketball.

I thought about this the other night - it's simply incomprehensible to the UConn fan that half the state of Michigan may have been rooting for us in the championship game (Michigan State fans). Half of the state of North Carolina may have been rooting for us against Duke (NC State & UNC fans). That simply doesn't happen in the state of CT - we're a state united.

PS - I hope we continue to show the same level of reverence and appreciation for our queen, Andrea Hurley as well. And hat tip to Dave Benedict, that dude is kind of an unsung hero in all of this and keeping him onboard is key to future stability as well.

This is a phenomenal post, great point and well said

He said 60. Maybe he’ll rethink that, but I just took the option he told us he’d take.

Great post, but we all know David Benedict is a hero too. I would love to hear the conversations between Dan Hurley and David Benedict and Big East HQ especially after getting hosed in the championship game. If UConn were in one of the P4 conferences I'm sure their commissioners would have something to say about it. Probably very publicly.

This is like a rahrah session. Half of Michigan…half of N.C. Really? Those and others have more than one nationally recognizable school. N.C. has 3. CT has one.
Understand the Whalers and Sun hurt…I was season ticket holder for the whalers. They moved to a better, economic, POLITICAL and weather location. Didn’t like it but understood why. Gov is a joke and taxes are insane.
If Hurley leaves earlier than people thought, it’ll be due to people’s continuing criticism and being fed up with it. Loved JC and love Hurley
