I think Hurley and staff are adjusting. He is not like Coach Mac at Creighton who loves to play golf. This is his passion, and as long as he has his health, I don't see him going anywhere. He's on the path to being a Top 10 coach of all time.

Agree with this.

Dusty May said in one of his recent interviews that recruiting has actually gotten more efficient. Programs that succeed are better able to pick and choose from proven options without wasting years cultivating connections and constantly on the road.

As long as Dan Hurley feels like he has the institutional backing to win championships, I expect he will be coaching here.

Unless the Knicks or Nets come knocking I'd have to think UConn is his final destination and he'll probably retire by 60. Sure he'll be an analyst in the ESPN studios or cbs though.

Knicks job was open last summer. Dan was quickly linked to it and shot down the rumors. Can’t imagine that attitude changing anytime soon.

He ain't mellow, but I think he grasped that if he kept going with the same intensity he was at, he wouldn't last long. He's been recalibrating his emotions, and if he can find the right balance, he'll be here for a while.

He turned down the Lakers and Kentucky. I don't see gardening in his future. Would being a color guy get his juices flowing? I don't see that either.

I guess the only threat are the Knicks, if they have an opening and the right roster.

The Knicks are only an upgrade if he needs to leave Storrs.

And the days of a college coach having to leave because of a scandal involving violations, are over.

There is nothing that is off-limits at this point. Everything that Calipari, Pitino, et al were caught doing, is now completely acceptable by the NCAA.

I don't see Hurley being involved in personal scandals either - his wife seems like the type that would just kick his ass from one end of Connecticut to another, and then tell him to sit his ass down in storrs, and do his damn job.

Andrea should be on the UConn payroll, just in case.

His personality would be interesting in the NBA. He’s so focused on recruiting the right personalities here that it feels like forcing him to manage personalities in the NBA would be a rough adjustment.

Incredibly underrated point. While you have essentially free agency every summer, the negotiations are more formal in nature. Visit, meet the staff, detail the plan and make the $ offer.

Sure as hell beats "showing love" at random AAU and HS basketball games for 2 to 3 years only to lose a kid at the last minute on signing day.

Halfway through his book right now and this is hard to gauge. If college basketball continues to turn in a G-League 2.0, I don't know if he mentally can stay to 2031. Dude has struggled with mental health and as he gets older, he pays more attention to it. He has the chops but you can tell in his book and in life, he is watching out for himself.

May lucked out when he signed Landeborg. This is a guy who shares a lot of the "intangibles" that AK has and was their defacto leader, not just for what was on the stat sheet. If Yaxel was simply a stat compiler, UM is not the national champion.

My immediate concern with Hurley's longevity is whether he can cope with never finding another AK. Alex and Tarris were coachable and tolerated all that Danny shoved at them. The landscape has changed greatly since the two of them were freshmen. AK was a luxury that's going to be difficult if not impossible to replace as far as what he meant to Hurley - all you AK critics just don't get that part of the equation. It's not easy to buy into Hurley's system.

I also don't know if we're going to be running as complex a system as we've been doing now that Luke is leaving.

If Danny gets by all of the above and still has fire, great. If we get into a P4 and he finds it a new challenge, great. But I mostly think he's on a path to retire before 65, and probably closer to 60.

Then he might go back to Jersey and coach HS.

I don't get how there are still UConn fans who don't fully understand why he was such a difference maker over his career.

The connection between a coach and each player is unique. The connection between a coach and his locker room is a distinct thing from that. Aside from AK's grasp on the complexities of the schematics, aside from the fact he knew how to lead by example, aside from the fact he chose UConn time and time again so Hurley developed a comfort in having him on the court... AK was the conduit that channeled Hurley's energy into the locker room in a way that it could be digested and absorbed. That is not something that can be taken for granted. It's a special connection between a coach and player. Not easily replaceable. A rare thing that only some can ever create. Championship teams have special locker rooms... we could count on that with AK in the building. Gigantic shoes to fill.

Of course we'll miss AK and of course he's huge for the program but we lost much better players than him and this thing kept on humming. Clingan and Castle left and we weren't talking about not making the second weekend without them. We obviously would've won 4 in a row had they stayed. If Cam got another year of eligibility we would've three-peated.

It's a program and the best program in the country, no one player is responsible for the success of it.

I'm not sure Dan will ever bite on taking players inter conference, I think he's too loyal to the conference for that. I'd have to see it happen once to believe it - do hear he's in on the Hall center. Hurley is a relationship guy - I don't think he wants to deal with one year players on average (other than guys like Cam who is truly one of a kind). He wants to foster, nurture. He knows he not going to win with the one year player template, as other schools with more money are going to have too many advantages financially. If that becomes apparent, he's gone. Especially if he sees refereeing to be part of the challenge. Last night was blasphemy.

Dan looked really content last night. As many said, may have been his best run so far.

The program was a dumpster fire when he arrived but he had it going in the right when Alex arrived and by the time he got on the court he was part of an absolute machine for two seasons. Alex was a role player on those teams but really became the leader over his last two years and we did not make it past the first weekend last year with AK. Like i said, lets relax.
