We lost. Last year coach talked about our national championship caliber team. Last night he saw it. Our undermanned team almost toppled the #5 team. I know he said we got punked but he won't see it again this year because if everyone is healthy they won't let it happen again. He saw Reibe played a big time game against a big time opponent. He doesn't have to wait until the end of the year for Reibe not to play like a freshman. AK is what Calhoun sees...he's a good college player. No more. Not being harsh but he was outclassed by Peat. Still want him on this team. Demary fighting for that jump ball possession may not seem like much but it shows his not backing down to anyone. This team showed last night that the sum of the parts are going to be gritty and dynamic. Going to enjoy this ride!

Reibe will continue to get better if he gets the minutes. 5 or 10 minutes a game I don’t think does it. If they choose not to play hm with Reed, I don’t see where the meaningful minutes are going to come from.

He was our leading scorer I believe - he will get minutes. Similar to Clingan his first year.

Reibe will play minutes with Reed, like Donavan did with Sonogo. Bet on it.

Hurley said as much prior to the game. He noted that Reibe has to play 14-16 minutes a game to get Reed rest. He grew up last night, and hopefully it will be a catalyst for better play moving forward. You can't have Koroma out there beyond 2-3 minutes in an emergency. He's just not that good. Plus getting Mullins back reduces minutes for Steward and Ross to what they should be playing...Steward 18 or so and Ross 10. Mullins also gives you a much better scorer on the floor. This team should really shine as the season goes on.

We respectable backups at each position especially when Mullins comes back healthy and Reed stays healthy.
I agree that AK is a good college player.

By outclassed do you mean outplayed? Peat was a matchup nightmare for him. Peat is more athletic and stronger. AZ successfully limited his chances and allowed other players to try and beat them. It almost happened. Glad you still want him on the team though. We have not even seen anything yet from Mullins so impossible to say he would have made a difference. I will wait to see Mullins prove himself before calling him a major piece. I know not many share my opinion on this. He should be good by April, but now??? I won’t believe it until I see it. Yes, I agree the sum of all their parts will be much better than just good. It is going to be fun to see them get better and take this all the way, if they can stay healthy.

I no longer get made when he has nights like last night.

That’s Alex playing at his best - I truly believe that. He runs into bad matchups once inawhile - just a solid all around player that puts it all out there.

Yea Peat is arguably the best PF in college basketball right now, and agree that he's a nightmare matchup for AK. That guy comes from a family of NFL players. AK might have "bulked up" but his game is still all finesse. He's a 5 rpg guy for his career.

That said, he can't disappear like he did yesterday. There are still ways to impact the game, especially on the offensive end. Too many times last year he became invisible during the big moments. He looked incredible against BYU. Hopefully this is just a minor setback.

Tough to judge Karaban on last night. He had a difficult match up which he made more difficult by committing two early (and not very smart) fouls. It is way, way past time for him to have learned this lesson.

I still think this team needs a guy who can go off for 30 --like Liam did against Creighton last year-- for this team to reach an elite level.

He's going to get his 12-15 minutes like Hurley said, but he's not playing more. Leaving aside that there's not enough minutes already for Karaban and Stewart at the 4 (and a result Mullins and Ross at the 3), Reibe is getting destroyed on the perimeter at the 5 spot. The thought of him trying to guard a 4 is terrifying

How many minutes were they on the court together? Or are you being sarcastic? I don't remember them playing together much. I remember one game they did but that's the only one I can think of.

Found this. That's probably the game I'm thinking about. 6 minutes total together in 2 other games.

Why UConn men's basketball coach Dan Hurley paired Donovan Clingan, Adama Sanogo vs. Providence

The most important fact we have learned so far is that Demary is the real deal. And that Tarris has made the leap. Reibe is already better than I expected. Smith is as advertised. Defense looks like it can be elite. If Mullins is 80% as advertised, the team should look like a juggernaut come March.

Koroma….Played 12 minutes, needs to have his nails cut, but we still could have won. That is what he found out.

One thing about Reibe is that he can play outside, as we witnessed when he made a couple of threes. I could see him and Reed playing together at times.

You give up a ton on the other end though. If Reibe guards an opposing four, he won’t have foot speed to match. If Reed is on the four, then you risk foul trouble and having Reibe as your primary rebounder is no bueno. I doubt we’ll see all that much of them together.

I think it’s not anything to worry about. Arizona coach said postgame that they game-planned to be all over AK and Solo. They were successful in that approach. Combine that with the understandable mismatch with Peat’s physicality and I’d say Alex did a solid job contributed in every way he was capable of throughout the game. I’d maybe argue he should’ve pulled the trigger from deep a few times when he didn’t, but I can only imagine if he didn’t shoot it it’s cuz he felt too smothered and I respect his judgment as our leader on the floor.

Danny found out lots of things, and we did as well. I agree with just about everything listed above - but there are a couple of other tweaks that Dan needs for heavily focus on if we are a real threat in March. I'm 100% sure he already knows that.

First and foremost, Danny found out that we are a significant liability at the foul line - especially with the second teamers. We've had 50% games before in previous years, and they ALWAYS cost us big time. We missed 9 foul shots vs. AZ and a couple of them were the first of one and ones. An additional 4 points would have won - even considering AZ made FTs at the end when we had to foul.

He learned that we really can't go too too deep in the roster. Koroma was a culprit at the foul line and couldn't handle AZs bigs on the boards. And he need to rein in Smith a bit. He looked like the speed and intensity AZ could bring flustered him and he was looking for ANY shot at the end. Conversely, he did look to distribute - his assists were big - but the game needs to slow down for him. He was not there to hit the winning shot every time down but to facilitate the shot being hit.

We all knew we'd lose a few games this year. Losing to Arizona isn't the end of the season. Overall, we are still a serious threat in March - especially with Tarek and Mullins in the lineup.
