Let's not kid ourselves - you can take on that mindset once the wheels were in motion, he had a couple NC's, could attract any recruit he wanted. Without them, he wouldn't even be in a position to have a voice on the topic.

Women's hoops is also a very different arena, not nearly the $$ at stake. Hurley just signed a massive deal where state taxpayers are footing the bill. There is an expectation that comes along with that.

actually, unless things have changed and I don’t believe they have, state taxpayers don’t pay for Dan or Geno’s salary other than their base pay of a couple hundred thousand. the bulk of their compensation is from TV rights $, donors, camps, media deals. but that said, I agree with your general point.
 
From the beginning, even before he'd won a title; to me it seemed Geno had a policy to not recruit players that had a bigmouth father. I wonder if he mention something like that to Dan.
