Hurley’s comparing Mullins to Curry

I always released the ball higher and would work on even raising it some and trying to get more lift on my jump shot. I’m always thinking about what could have been if I just sped everything up and shot it from lower. I had no problem shooting from down there. I’d do it when shooting absolute bombs in a game of horse etc. It just never occurred to me that the speed would make up for the lack of height on the release. My son played some college ball and we had him doing the Curry model. It served him well. He’s only 5’11” and his jumper pretty much never got blocked. Crazy what an advancement Curry made to shooting for the smaller guys.

I mean, Seth is a career 43% 3pt shooter. Steph, 39%. So the stats seem to indicate one brother is a better shooter. /s

Everyone knows about his range-esp. opposing teams/coaches. I'm impressed with his discipline and team oriented approach to get his shots within the context of our offensive sets and when the opportunity presents itself. He's an excellent teammate -mature beyond his years-who wants to help his team win games. Perfect Program fit.

He was referring to the mechanics of their shots and how they were different. Specifically he was talking about Mullins having a lower release point but said it was not a problem because he got the shot off so quickly.

I have been saying a faster shot > elevated shot on this board for years and people have been at my throat. Lol

When you look like the old style shot, even like Ray Allen's or Hawkins you can see how they actually shoot on the way DOWN. You'd never change those guys shot, but if you're starting from the ground up, it's better to not elevate that much as a shooter.

People always say "shoot with the legs!" but that's kind of a myth. If you want the ball to go farther, you shoot more with your arms.

Shooters like Curry and Mullins are actually shooting at the apex of their shot and using their legs more efficiently. Hence, ya know, "best shooter to ever touch a basketball" kind of stuff.

Mullins has some really nifty footwork coming off screen left to right. Gets it up quick. What's crazy is just how much room for improvement his work off screens has. He's profiling like he could be a top shooter in the league if he keeps improving, getting bigger, stays healthy.

247Sports 2025 Class Ranking: No. 12 overall

Final rankings came out in May of 2025, but it was a full year earlier, in May of 2024, when I publicly praised Mullins. He received a subsequent boost in the 247Sports rankings, which sparked a copycat effect across the industry. Mullins jumped from just inside the top 100 to a five-star prospect ranked No. 12 overall. Not surprisingly, he made similar leaps on other national services. He missed the first five games of his freshman season at UConn, and took another couple of weeks to get himself back into a rhythm. Most recently, though, he's averaged 16 points per game in the last four while shooting 44% from behind the three-point line. He's also being mocked as a very possible one-and-done first-round pick.

Whats funny is Braylon is a great shooter and hes making shots but i dont think we`ve seen him get hot yet. That will be a sight.
