How will we Stop or slow down Beers today?

First real challenge to coach's much preferred rotations, which has El Alfy to the bench at the 5-minute mark, regardless of performance, foul situation, replaced with Shade, who, for me, is a weak on-ball defender.

Would seem to imply enhanced playing time for El Alfy, Brady, and Griffin (health permitting). Perhaps a preview of how to defend Betts, should the fates take UConn there.

Many choices on offer, most obviously either front and back or just back with guards cheating the passing lane and sagging / collapsing which will place pressure on the weak side help on the low blocks, and perimitere kick-outs. One would expect the latter given Fudd's elite understanding of game flow, and the other disruptive options available (Griffin, Arnold).

We have enough fouls to give between Jana and Ice. I think Ice could make her run the court more than Jana. Beers usually doesn't play more
then 5 or 6 minutes until they rest her. If they cant slow her down they will have to double her or deny the entry passes with their great guard
defense. If she throws it back out I am OK with that since they really don't shoot the 3 very well.

We will probably face Betts down the line when we keep on winning this will be our first chance at how we approach a good big.

Hopefully UConn has the luck on their side today. If UConn’s outside shots are falling they’ll be ok. We shall see.

Yes, I’m hoping we can be hot early with perimeter shooting and get OU back on their heels. That will change things quick.

Hum... While it's always a delight to get the fortuitous bounce I think the discipline and pressure on defense should be sufficient to deal with Sooners

Disagree. But perhaps this is about what it means to be an on-ball defender in a switching defense. Ash and KK play 'in your face' defense and they don't miss their switches. On a team that doesn't switch 1-5, she might not fare as well. But her grasp of the team concept is superb.

No question as to her engine - she runs tirelessly. Disagree as to her grasp of the "team concept" on the defensive end. FOR ME, far too easily displaced on screens (under, or fouls running into the screener), loses her person on rotations, resulting in unguarded threes, as she lags on the closeout. Contrast to Fudd, whose ability to read and defend an offense / anticipate, is elite.
 
When UCONN played Iowa State this season, center Audi Crooks had 22 points. But the Huskies won by 33!
While the Sooners are more talented, the key is limiting the Oklahoma shooters even if Beers has a solid game.
Plus, Oklahoma must be asking, "How do we slow down Sarah, Paige, & Azzi??"
 
Take a page from last years 2004 men’s national championship against Zach Edey, let Beers get hers and stop everyone else. Let her win some battles especially early in order to win the war. Get through the half with minimal foul trouble. Stop the ball, and go at her on the offensive end, get her tired.

There is a lot of space on the continuum between "elite" and "weak". Does Ash occasionally get displaced by screens? Sure (as does every other perimeter defender), but that doesn't mean that she doesn't grasp team defense concepts.
 
Not sure that this subject was worthy of the energy. Both Beers and Audi Crooks are talented but have limited range and need to rest every 5 minutes or so. Once you get to the Final 4, the "5's" on the top teams play at a much higher level. While many of us were disappointed in the performance of our centers this year, we are one of the only teams left with two interchangeable bigs that could be an underappreciated, but vital, asset in the key games.

Not black or white - as to the first point as well. Or perhaps semantics. Rather than "grasp" (as nobody really knows how much she understands them) her execution of them is, FOR ME, below average (not zero). As was on display in last nights game.
