Today we have to face the first Big that could give us trouble. I think we will play her straight up and see if Jana or Ice can hold her down.
We have enough fouls to give between Jana and Ice. I think Ice could make her run the court more than Jana. Beers usually doesn't play more
then 5 or 6 minutes until they rest her. If they cant slow her down they will have to double her or deny the entry passes with their great guard
defense. If she throws it back out I am OK with that since they really don't shoot the 3 very well.

We will probably face Betts down the line when we keep on winning this will be our first chance at how we approach a good big.
What do you think?

This is the trap I hope Geno didn’t fall into. We can’t stop Beers. We don’t have a good option for her. We can make her run and take her out of the game.

The player I think we should focus on is Verhulst. I can’t see Oklahoma beating us if Verhulst is 1-8 with 5 points and 5 turnovers.

It is always appealing to try to stop or limit the best player. But I prefer to keep the complimentary pieces from going off. I am reminded of that national championship game where Henderson went off while UConn focused all of their attention on Aliyah Boston. Didn’t agree with that game plan. Won’t agree with it against Oklahoma or UCLA. You can’t give their 3 point shooters open looks that will lead to confidence.

I don't worry about Beers. Give her 20-24 and OK's other excellent player - Peyton V. give her 15-18. So at the low end that's 35 for their "stars" or at the high end it's 42. Throw in 20 for the rest of OK's squad and it's no where near enough to even cover what we will get just from our Big 3 let alone the 20+ pts we will get from our "non Big 3."

South Dakota State was a good preparatory game, I think our defensive approach will be very similar. UConn doubled Brooklyn Meyer quite a bit but not all the time. Obviously Beers is better, but same idea.

Looking forward, Iriafen, Lee, Betts, etc. it will be the same approach. We will need all five on the defensive boards and hope that we can still get into a transition game off of that.

The most important thing defensively will be to make it a full court game and wear them down by the third quarter.

Beers only averages 17.5 pts a game. Just control the scoring of the other 4.

I also think KK and Ash will have a say in how well Beers does. Ironic, isn't it? But those two mischief makers will claw at any rebounds she gets.

Also, in Sensei's analysis thread, someone mentioned that Reagan will have to cover Sarah at least some of the time. This is as big a problem as how UConn stops her. If we turn them over, does Regan run the floor in transition or just give up on those plays? This is one of the things that limits Audi's minutes for Iowa State.

Put a body on her 10 feet from the basket. Make her work to get to her block. Make things difficult enough that the guards can quickly get to her for a quick poke of the ball. IOW, I agree with the previous two posts, just a bit of a rephrase.

Front her with Griffin, Note carefully how OK get the ball into Beers. Counter with our best option one on one. Give Beers her 15 points but keep her off the boards and in foul trouble.

Deny the entry passes as much as possible. Tire her out. My one concern is Sarah picking up fouls when we go small and she has to guard Beers.
I could also see Sarah having her off balence with her quickness and Beers will be the one picking up the fouls.

Lots of good answers lets see what Geno does. I like Slow the Beers down by one per quarter so far. Very analytical .

Put Jana on her. Emphasis to Jana she don't have to stop her just be all hands straight up and mirror her moves. Beers can't jump so Jana shouldn't have to either. Box her out as much as possible.
Her 5 fouls will take 10 minutes so need to have her on the floor judiciously and strategically.
