Jones and Jaquez. 0 for 7.Pace of the game and El Alfy putting a body on her. Even if she got 20 and 10…that’s a win. I actually believe that it’s Jaquez and Jones that need to be disrupted.
It worked pretty well.I was thinking the same thing. 10 fouls between Jana and Ice. Let her have 30-35 and shut down the 3-game for UCLA. Also, strong ball pressure to make entry passes more difficult.
Just a little horn tooting here.If the question is about slowing Betts down, the answer is the same as it's always been for opposition bigs: make her run the floor on defense. This means:
- Run the transition game after misses and makes. We did this pretty effectively against Ark St, admittedly not UCLA caliber, but they are rather speedy.
- Don't allow UCLA players to swat the ball away after makes to delay the game. Geno should complain about this and demand technicals if they resort to this tactic, which was a favorite trick of the Lakers when they played Boston in the Bird-Magic rivalry.
- Don't focus on stopping Betts's offense so much as hindering her defense.
the shocking thing was just how bad the rest of the team wasJust a little horn tooting here.
