Sure he talked the talk, but what sold Mühl on the idea of moving to America was a five-minute highlight video Auriemma played during his visit.
This video didn’t show the Huskies’ flashy passing abilities, their clutch buckets or even their all-too-familiar confetti showers. This highlight video was meant just for Mühl.
“It was, I kid you not, five minutes of UConn players diving on balls, winning defensive stops, boxing out and rebounding, getting steals. There was no scoring. There were no assists. Nothing. It was pure hustle on the court,” Mühl recalled in a phone interview with CT Insider. “… I couldn't get my eyes off the TV.”
Money has become a bigger factor in international recruiting. International student-athletes in the NCAA cannot participate in NIL while in the States, as it violates the terms of their student visa. However, thanks to revenue sharing, they can accept passive income from their university. So, while you’ll never see UConn’s Ecuadorian freshman Blanca Quiñonez on a commercial promoting UConn or on Jordan’s Furniture billboard, she can earn a portion of the revenue every time UConn sells her jersey.
