Sure he talked the talk, but what sold Mühl on the idea of moving to America was a five-minute highlight video Auriemma played during his visit.
This video didn’t show the Huskies’ flashy passing abilities, their clutch buckets or even their all-too-familiar confetti showers. This highlight video was meant just for Mühl.
“It was, I kid you not, five minutes of UConn players diving on balls, winning defensive stops, boxing out and rebounding, getting steals. There was no scoring. There were no assists. Nothing. It was pure hustle on the court,” Mühl recalled in a phone interview with CT Insider. “… I couldn't get my eyes off the TV.”
Money has become a bigger factor in international recruiting. International student-athletes in the NCAA cannot participate in NIL while in the States, as it violates the terms of their student visa. However, thanks to revenue sharing, they can accept passive income from their university. So, while you’ll never see UConn’s Ecuadorian freshman Blanca Quiñonez on a commercial promoting UConn or on Jordan’s Furniture billboard, she can earn a portion of the revenue every time UConn sells her jersey.

Wow! I suspected it would be something like this. But it’s interesting to see it confirmed. Not just that it’s individually tailored to the prospect — though that shows how carefully Geno has studied each individual — but mainly that it tells them something really true. The recruits he really wants are the ones who want to hear the truth from their coaches. Sarah reported something similar in a brief remark, that Geno and CD told her she’d have to get into better shape. Apparently none of the other recruiters had told her that.

Makes you wonder what sort of video he showed the others, like KK Ash and Allie, to persuade them to leave the Midwest, where they were already being recruited heavily. Or Paige? What did he say to her? Did he have to say anything in her case? Or Aaliyah? Maybe he just showed her video of Paige and Nika and said something like, “You’ll have to work as hard as these two.”

So, revenue sharing DOES apply to foreign students . That is not an insignificant amount of money.

Really opened my eyes to certain recruiting possibilities. Thanks Nan!
Not me!

The revenue sharing allows passive income, which means they earn a percentage of t-shirts and jerseys sold. International players aren’t supposed to earn a wage unless they have a work visa as opposed to a student visa
