Gift article - How the UConn women's basketball team is approaching final week of preseason practice

Interesting tidbits -

“We want to find out what we've got, and people are going to be in somewhat uncomfortable situations,” Auriemma said. “So, I think that's also good. They're going to need to rely on each other, so that's also good.
For all five newcomers, including fellow freshmen Gandy Malou-Mamel and Kelis Fisher, getting comfortable at UConn is a long process. Williams and Heckel both said UConn’s system is more intense than what they were used to at their former programs.
“I have to learn how to sub again,” Auriemma joked. “You know, we've had three or four years in a row there where, you know, there's nobody to sub, so it was easy. You know, players have to learn. Some of our guys have never played on a full roster, so they have to learn how to be really efficient in a shorter period of time.”

@BRS24 Doesn't appear to be a Gift article to me, it wants me to sign in, even after signing up the the Connecticut Briefing.
What am I missing?

I would like to recommend joining. I think it’s like a quarter a month. The Hartford Courier is like $4 a month. Articles daily about the men’s and women’s teams.

I don’t think the gift article thing works the way it used to, for sharing more broadly. I couldn’t get in through this link either. But the reader function still works. And @FanSince17 is right. It’s a really cheap subscription. Might as well just pay for it.

Another quote from the article " You know, if we have the wrong combination out there, someone who is really, really good won't look as good." Very telling. It means he is looking for combinations to play at different times, not just a core rotation with substitutions. Last year, "small ball" was not just substitutions. It was not only new player(s) but also a different attack mode with pressing and running. Look for that this year with"big ball" also.

It's like Mark Twain said, "The sermon was free--and worth it."

The link worked for me.

Nothing in the article should surprise anybody. Each year is a new team that needs time to adjust. Even Geno says he has to learn how to sub.
