-> “You are trying to acquire as much talent as you possibly can,” Candle said. “What is talent from that standpoint of it? They have to be elite teachers. They have to be elite human beings. They have to understand there is an education stage to this. We are at a critical stage of young people's lives. The players are 18-22 years old, and we are trying to make a lasting impact that will have an impact long after the cleats come off. <-

-> Such teachers don’t come cheaply. UConn is committed to spend more than $5.5 million in salaries to build the 2026 football coaching staff, and if the past four years are an accurate indication, the university will also spend another $2.6 million on salaries for football staff members other than coaches. That’s a total of $8.1 million in total for football staff.<-

Do they ever go the extra mile and explain the sources of the coaching salaries at UConn?
Since I can ever remember, coaches salaries have always been stated as not being funded by state taxes, but rather revenue generated by the AD.

And if you read the article, they break out Candle's base pay ($400k), and note the bulk of the additional pay he receives ($2.1M) is from endorsements, speaking engagements, etc.

I don't care, but we should keep getting more and bigger sources. We should have done this 15 years ago. Imagine how much money we wouldn't have lost and how many STHs we would have kept if we didn't go cheap on the staff and maybe cheated a little too.

Thanks all. Yep, responding to the headline. Per CT General Assembly, All UConn coaches' compensation comes solely from Athletic Department revenues. These include ticket sales, radio and television broadcast contracts, Big East conference and NCAA income, private fundraising, and corporate partnerships...
