This sounds like a simple question to answer, and if you check out sports reference.com,
It will tell you not only that UConn has been ranked in the AP poll 654 weeks (total), but it will give you the complete listing of every one of those 654 weeks.
But if I look at this ESPN article,
It says "Auriemma has led the Huskies to 654 appearances in the Poll"
So what's the problem I hear you asking, the answer is 654.
The problem is the ESPN article (which is bylined Associated Press) was written on February 16 of this year and there have been five polls since then.
I asked AI, and was told the 654 is correct as of February 16 so the current total should be 659, and the sports reference page is simply not current. But the sports reference list includes the most recent five appearances.
I pointed this discrepancy out to AI and it held firm insisting that sports reference was simply not yet current.
That doesn't make sense to me. Anyone have any thoughts?
