One, two, three? How many times do we want to be the sacrificial lamb?
Some schools will be 2-for-1's.
Harbaugh loves the northeast corridor guys. Would he be willing to bring UM back to The Rent?
SEC schools like to play a weak school just before their rival.
Big10, Big12 & pac12 all have 3 OOC tilts per season, ACC & SEC have 4 (for now).
Leave the Indy schools for November, ending with UMass.
Save the BCS team until later in season. September is the easiest time to get P5 schools.
Any chance of moving UMass game in '20 to August 29th?
Also, try to move Maine game in '20 to October to open up 2 prime weekends.

So, with that, and judging when teams need home games :
Buy Games:
'20 - Florida State & Virginia Tech
'21 - Clemson & USC
'22 - Alabama & Oklahoma
'23 - Auburn & Stanford
'24 - Penn State & Michigan
'25 - Ohio State & Wisconsin
I know, we will get pummeled, but we couldn't get a 3 & out last year against URI!
why not make a few Million?

2-for-1's: -
Miami (fla) @20, H-21, @22
TCU @20, H-21, @22

P5 schools that 'could be' home & home: (might have to add another away game)
Maryland - H-21, @-24
Northwestern - @21, H-24
Pitt - H-21, @23
Baylor - @21, H-25
WV - H-25, @26
Kansas - @22, H-23
Rutgers - @22, H-24
GTech - @22, H-23

G6- home & homes
Hawaii - @21, H-25
FIU - @20, H-21, @23, H-24
FAU - @22, H-25
(would like to have a trip to FL every year for recruiting purposes)
UAB - @20, H-22
Marshall- H-21, @22
Rice- @ 23, H-27
Charlotte - H-25, @26
MTSU - @21, H-22
Coastal - @20, H-22, @23, H-24
ODU - H-20, @21
UCF (?) - H-20, @21

INDY's
I'm sure New Mexico State & UConn would rather not play. But would have an understanding if they both need games they would work it out.

Army - H-20, @ 22, H-23
BYU - @ 22
Liberty - H-23
UMass - H-22, @23
Then starting in '24, we'd have 2 home, 2 away each year
2024 - H- BYU, H-UMass - @Army, @Liberty
2025 - @BYU, @UMass - H-ARMY, H-LIBERTY
and so on.

Plus 1 very weak BCS home game per year (we may need to schedule more than 1 in '20)

Yes. We should. We should have when we had a conference and even moreso now. We should do 2 for 1s with anyone not in the Sunbelt/MAC/CUSA and maybe even with those schools. We are past the point of being prideful in scheduling

I would favor payday games over 2 for 1's, but we probably need to do a little of both. We are years away from having the customer demand for 7 home games, so we only need 6 a year and 5 is not the end of the world, which gives us some flexibility to sell some road games.

I would never go to Clemson, but middle and lower tier SEC and Big 10 teams pay well for payday games, and have potential to be a lot more competitive.

Will likely need 2-3 paydays to make up for little tv revenue with no conference ties.

We should try to get three payday game per season. That's likely 4-5 million dollars. With no possibility of making a bowl game, it's not like we need to pad the schedule, and it's about the only thing you have to sell to recruits.

UConn and New Mexico State will most definitely be playing. A lot. And UConn should want that because it’s a winnable game.

One of my best friends is a University of North Texas alum. For those that don’t know, they are in C-USA. He calls their games against Alabama and LSU “body bag” games.

It’s a shame we have to play body bag games.

Ok, some here need an education, but there should be some goals when it comes to these buy games.

1. Early season "Bowl" game, We won't be going to many bowls unless there are open spots to fill, so it makes sense to take one payday road game a year to attractive locales like Clemson. As many as we can get, they need not be winnable but definitely bigger names, accessible, with nice weather if you can.

2. The AAC schools will likely shun us for a while, but I like to think that Cincy and Temple will be open to scheduling down the road. CR isn't over and it good to have friends in the event a NE FB conference has to happen at some point.

3. We will need to redefine what it means to be local. Short term we may need extra games against Yankee conference type foes. We should try to keep those to 1 FCS and 1 BCS game per season. Loading up too much will kill interest.

4. If we can't schedule 5-6 P5/level games a season, I'd look more at MAC/CUSA schools in strategic recruiting areas, PA, OH, VA etc.

5. I fully expect more Georgia Southern type games than were used to but that's OK if we get more attractive top and middle tier games.

It's going to be tough to fill out a whole schedule:

Sep
1 FCS team (Central CT or Lafayette) at home
1 P6 Payday slaughter (e.g. Clemson) away
1 lower level northeast / northern P5 (e.g. Rutgers, Pitt, etc) home and away
1 P5 (anyone that will play UConn) 2:1 away / home

Oct
1 G6 (doesn't matter, this will be a southern team) at home
1 G6 (doesn't matter, this will be a southern team) away
1 ??
1 ??

Nov
1 Independent (Army or Liberty) at home
1 Independent (Army or Liberty) away
1 NMSU home or away
1 UMass (try to make this the last game of the year) home or away

Agreed. The past few seasons have been pretty rough.

The only thing I’d say is I think we can squeeze in extra 2 for 1 in there

I don't think we can afford any of our September slots to be FCS, unfortunately. That's the easiest and most likely time to get P5/top G5 teams to play.

Generally speaking when you play 2 for 1s, you do get a payment for the "buy" portion of that scheduling deal. So a 2-1 is basically a H-H and a buy game.

No, the home game is the payment

We haven’t played body bag games yet. They’re about to start.
When pre-BE football UConn played at VT and scUM and H-H with GTech, all games were revenue generators. Similarly, IU thought they’d scalp the Huskies to open the Rent and in the return Bloomington game. Finally; Iowa State had similar thoughts which didn’t pan out as well as intended for the Cyclones. Absolutely all intended body baggers!

+1 on the scUM reference
