A bit chilly/rainy in sw Fla….pics of snow in panhandle are quite entertaining
@Chin Diesel u surviving?
I'm actually out of the area for work this week and missed all the fun.
Looks like we got about 7" inches around my house and most people I know got at least 6". Some fortunate things happened. First it was well below freezing for a couple of days before the storm so when the snow hit the roads it didn't melt and then freeze. Winds kicked up yesterday during the heaviest snow making white out blizzard conditions which would have shut down 90% of the country under similar conditions. Also, the temps were low so this was a light, fluffy snow, not the heavy heart attack snow. That is good for areas with above ground power lines. Nearby my home everything is underground.
There isn't any snow removal equipment nor are any DOT type trucks equipped for sanding, salting or plowing. I read somewhere the city of Pensacola rented 5 plows from Atlanta to come down ahead of the storm.
The airports around the gulf coast closed Tuesday, Wed, and are going to try and open on Thursday. There are a bunch of military bases along the Florida gulf coast and all of them are closed from Tues through Friday. Schools are all out, most government offices are closed through Friday. Grocery stores and some restaurants and bars are slowly starting to open back up.
Mrs. Diesel sent me this pic.
