Just found out this morning that junior lead guard Marcus Sasser (17.7 ppg) is out for the year w/ a toe injury. This news comes just days after sophomore wing Tramon Mark (10.1) was out for the year w/ a shoulder injury.

As much as we crap on the AAC, Houston has been one of my more liked powerhouse teams over the last few years. This team had legit Final Four aspirations, but these injuries definitely deflate those hopes.

Kelvin Sampson is one of the very best active coaches in terms of identifying talent, systems and implementation. He knows exactly the guys he needs to play his style of ball and he goes and gets them. He’s a lot like Pitino in that he can instantly make any team better. If it weren’t for scandal, he’d be far more accomplished.

Can you remind me of what his scandal was? I’ve always had a disrespect for him which must have spawned from his scandal but at this point can’t for the life of me remember what he did. I agree he seems like a very good coach, always felt like beating one of his teams was an accomplishment.

Didn't he get in trouble for texting players too much or maybe out of the time period where they weren't supposed to be contacted. I don't remember anything too egregious.

That's a tough situation to be in, losing key players for the entire season. It will be interesting to see how they adjust and how successful they can be in spite of the circumstances. That said, I have never liked Houston, the same as I have never liked Cincinnati or Providence; they just always gave/give us fits. My dislike for Kentucky though is in a completely different category, but that's because to me it's an NBA mill and as a program, really doesn't develop student athletes. That's just my personal feeling and why I could never get behind such a program. That said, as much as it pains me, I have to give props to Calipari for managing to put together a cohesive, Top 25 team almost every year.

Oklahoma, Indiana and soon to be Houston recruiting violations

Mostly related to phone calls to recruits.

I like Kelvin. The man is a winner and especially so at Houston. He has a physical system and recruits around it.

When UConn left the AAC, he spoke passionately about how UConn's move to the Big East was a significant loss to the conference. I have found him to be a class act top to bottom.

That's not exactly what happened

lol what skills you expect him to say? Yeah we stuck now?

I believe Houston just won their 5th in a row playing with a 5 man rotation
Josh may have been the pickup of the year with their injuries
tonight he was 30-11 in a win over USF.
In fairness, outside of a decent Ok State team, those are all games against opponents they should have easily handled even short handed. Sampson is a good coach no doubt though.

Houston played 11 players last night, 8 of them for 14 minutes or more. I don't mean to pick on you, and this is obviously a trivial example of it, but people spreading easily disprovable information without checking its veracity will our downfall.
