Houston/Oregon St + Baylor/Arkansas

Baylor's only Achilles' heel is shot selection. They have a tendency to waste possessions with very low percentage attempts.

And just like that... Arkansas is back in it

Oregon State lost so the order of planets and their rotations are back in order. Here is to another 40 years before they return again.

I like this Baylor team a lot. Would love to see them beat Gonzaga, no matter how scummy the athletics department is. These kids play a fun style and have great chemistry. These guards are tough.

Is Baylor playing? This whole time I just assumed it was Oregon because of the green on their jerseys.

Arkansas 8-0 run its 62-58, plenty of game left just over 9 minutes. Should be a good finish

Great game. Musselman is a really good coach. His team is totally outmatched physically but holding their own

Mitchell is a beast off the bounce
AJax should be watching this game and taking notes. Mitchell is the most athletic guy in the floor and even if he can’t make a shot outside of the paint he’s dominating. Jackson should be able to get by his man at will next year in similar fashion

I get that conventional wisdom among the brain trust is now that UConn is the worst team in college basketball but you think it's crazy to suggest that UConn could have run a Cleveland State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Oregon State gauntlet? I mean, it is literally the easiest final four in the history of the tournament.
In 04 we beat a 15, a 7, a 6 and an 8. Not exactly a murderer’s row, but I don’t recall anyone giving us grief for an easy path to the FF. They beat who they had to beat, give them credit.

Exactly..Need him to throw on 20-30 lbs of muscle and he can be a Mitchell clone. He certainly has the athleticism.

Baylor opens as a 4 point favorite over Houston in the first National Semifinal game

Alot of notes, Mitchell was breaking guys down with hesi moves, in-n-out dribbles and then finishing at the rim with "wrong" foot layups. Andre gotta get his skill level up a ton, right now he's just a straight line to the rim guy.

Not to open a can of worms, but ...

Do you think Hurley noticed that Oregon St. went to an effective 1-3-1 zone when they were getting killed playing man against Houston?

This new idea that we were a bad team now is freaking hilarious. We defintely couldve made a run with Houston's bracket. If we played Maryland 10 times we win at least 5 imo. We had a bad night

Would be exciting for Huskies next season if they could get into their offensive sets as quickly as Baylor did/does. Talk about putting pressure on the defense.

Impressive bunch of athletes top to bottom on their roster.

He said he is looking to steal things. I sure wish he'd steal that.

As for the games. All season long three teams looked good. Gonzaga, Baylor and then Michigan. Nobody else was clearly on that level. With Houston we couldn't tell. I thought injuries might knock Michigan out, but it looks like all 3 will be in the final four.

That was a great coaching adjustment which Houston really struggled to adapt to. The Z word is not a certain person’s repertoire .

Yeah, just like we would beat Creighton 5 out of 10, except we lost the 1st 3.

In medicine/orthopaedic surgery we say (of some surgeons who I won't name) that when you have only a hammer everything looks like a nail. That applies in many situations. You need lots of tools in your toolbox to deal with situations that may arise. You may not want to play a zone, ever, but you need to have one that you can use effectively against certain teams that have one or more guys shredding your man D. I would argue to practice 2 different ones - maybe a 1-3-1 trapping D, and also a matchup zone.

I’m somewhat surprised we don’t extend our pressure even if it isn’t necessarily to force turnovers. If anything, picking up 3/4 court or falling into a half court 1-3-1 before going to man like OSU did helps bleed 10 seconds or so off the shot clock and shortens the amount of time you “really” have to defend for. Plus there’s still a chance you can get some easy buckets via the extended pressure, which given our offensive woes at times, would seem like a good thing
