Hotels/Tickets for Puerto Rico Tip-off?

I am unfamiliar with San Juan and would like to stay downtown near the nightlife. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also on the website it states the tickets went on sale Seprember 1 but I still cannot purchase tickets.
