This one is worrisome. How many times can Hurley say no before the offers dry up?

Certainly worrisome but leave a job for life for a job where you might be fired for making the ECF? Wild

Yeah. This one has me concerned. And I don't get concerned easily.

Has a team ready to win a title. MSG couldn't be hotter with the Johnnies and Knicks right now. Gets to enjoy being close to his family and NJ ties. Wife is happy. Why wouldn't he take that job?

Me, upon reading the thread title:

Shut up, Deep.

There's not much reason, but on the flip side the job is now open right after an ECF run so 1) how much job security would he even have there and 2) if it's open now this pretty much guarantees it's open in the future too. I don't disagree with you and am definitely nervous, just playing devil's advocate

To toss this around....say he takes it. And they cut ties in 2-3 years and he's fired. It's not like he's going to have to beg for a CCSU head coaching position.

And if he brings them a title??? This is much, much different then going cross country to the malcontent Lebron declining Lakers.

Things can change but hearing that Hurley isn't as in love with this job as someone people think. I also think Knicks first choice will be Malone.
Mike Malone is the only guy of the three that would be hired by another team this summer. For the Knicks to do this now, its for one man. They didn't do this to potentially flirt with a first time nba coach who might say no.

Besides, with this roster and limited flexibility, Danny isn't that different a voice than Thibs. Danny wont win with this team.

Coach K got approached often for decades. All it did was improve their brand. Certainly did not hurt with the recruiting.

The realities of the college game (the power conference consolidation, being fine with the idea of pay to play but knowing that the current situation is untenable) are definitely a thing, for a lot of people. However- the way the NBA chews up and spits out coaches is not a great fit for a guy who prioritizes stability and routine. But, who doesn’t dream of working for your childhood favorite team? I’m still waiting on that call to play shortstop for the Phillies.

Not that I feel too bad for Thibs, he still gets paid and will get another job as soon as he wants one. But how does canning him make the team better? He was a plus.

FWIW, reading on a main Knicks forum, the consensus is either Malone, Wright or Johnnie Bryant(?). Hurley's name rarely came up...

Knicks are likely looking at Johnie Bryant as well, whose Atkinsons right hand man. He was an assistant with the Knicks then really shined last year under a different HC. Wouldn’t be surprised if this firing now was to get him before Phoenix hires him. Young up and coming coach, I could see that. Malone is Thibs 2.0, I don’t really get that hiring for the Knicks.

He's already a millionaire (perhaps a number of times) and he has years to go here. Why does he need NYC. One more Uconn contract and he can bow out at age 60. I don't see it.
How about Kemba?
