Hope Tristen Newton gets back on track

16 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds, one steal, a block and a couple of turnovers.

And yet, he wasn't impressive for long stretches.
Very good today, but it’s clear he relies on his size too much at times on the defensive end.

Teams are getting better at reading his drives, he’s had trouble getting to the rim recently. But, he’s doing a lot else well. Needs to get his shot right though.

.-.
He keeps playing like he has recently he will be an afterthought

Hurley probably called up and said he needed someone to treat some sick Huskies. It's easy to see how they got confused.
But was 5-16 from the floor. He was so up and down all game.
Yeah I don’t know if I would say very good. Still a ways to go and still seems off physically to me.

I think the flu should be treated by a real doctor though.
But for a Husky, maybe a vet is the right call. As I said in another thread, missing Clingan changes how we play at both ends and allows defenses to play more aggressive man. You might not double team Clingan but you need to help. That opens opportunities for other guys that aren’t there now.

He had a slump last January. Maybe it's in his biorhythm. I think that when March comes around and we're at full strength, he'll be back in the heroes column.
I'm scratching my head over his poor FT's though. He has to focus more with the clock off.

Maybe he has that darkness disease that us old folks get in the winter. We are gaining 2 minutes of stronger sunlight per day. Thats over 2 hours more on March 1st from Dec 21. Perfect.

I don't think I've ever seen a basketball player get beaten senseless like he does and not get calls. Holy mackerel Andy.

Tristen can clean some things up but it sure looked like he was getting hammered all night long by X. There were multiple times where he had eye contact with refs after a non-call . Refs weren't buying it.

This the Big East, which could the most physical conference in the country. Throw shooting % out the window because of all the bumping and grabbing. Tristen totally withstood all the fouling and played great.

Yeah he seems to play better when there's less of that physicality. That's why we've seen him look so good in non-conference games.

Didn't we have this same conversation last year around January?
We did, and some people who are once again showing up in this thread criticized him all the way through the national championship run too

Tristen is a baller. Guy I want with the ball in his hands when the game is on the line. Will make the shot and/or get to the FT line.. Where he's money.

X game was an outlier for FTs. But he iced the game when we needed them.

He’s shooting under 30% from the field and from 3 during Big East play.

It’s good he’s still finding ways to be effective in the meantime though. Getting to the FT line definitely helps.
