I got this email a few days ago - anybody heard anything about this an what ESPN plans are for any HS coverage?
Back in 2001, I started the HoopGurlz forums as a means of providing connection for those participating in or navigating the world of girls' basketball. At first that community was confined to the Pacific Northwest, but it quickly spread to the rest of the country. At its height, it was one of the biggest sports communities on the Internet.
It has been a great ride, but one about to end. After generously funding the boards for more than four years, ESPN, in shifting priorities, has decided to close them.
This will happen soon and I urge you to take one last look around. For one thing, the forums have served to memorialize several friends of us all who have left this life way too early -- Clyde Frazier Jr., Marques Jackson, Alan Guffey, Apache Paschall Joe C. Smith, Carly Stowell, Gerald Wright and Kay Yow. Please keep them alive in your hearts and deeds.
Thanks for the years of support, information and opinion -- even those that did not agree with mine. They all helped fuel the lightning growth of a sport we all love. I hope you are as proud of the effort as I am.
Warmly,
Glenn Nelson
