Still happy they beat SJU, not only for fanbase reasons. An SJU game just gets too chippy for my liking at this time of year.

Still wish you avoided the "chippy" Johnny's....St. John's played Marquette 2x in less than a week so you knew that would be a close game. If we had played them, we'd had beat them by 15+

I'm not going to argue with you but I will state that if what you claim is correct perhaps it is because of many of the posters on this board that have no problem complaining when things don't go as hoped yet cannot commit to attending the tournament games at the Garden.

My only thought on the UConn fans is that if we make it to the Sweet Sixteen at MSG this year I think our fans will be much closer to 2014 than this yea’s BET crowd.

Providence was my third MSG game and the vibe was nothing like the NCAAs in 2014 which were my previous 2. I don’t want to dump on fans but reading on here about how the BETs got it almost fell like a letdown.

Lots of fans won’t travel the extra 20 minutes when the game’s at Gampel instead of XL, so it’s nor shocking that our fans won’t travel to NYC.

So today will be different than I had hoped for. I will do yard work and stay away from watching any college basketball. Even not sure I will watch the selection show. Here are three words and definitions that I was thinking about:
1) Expectation = a strong belief that something will happen or be the case in the near or long term future
2) Hope = an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes
3) Wish = feel or express a strong desire that is not easily attainable. Want something that cannot or probably will not happen.
So if you are a UConn fan and last night did not change your point of view from hope to wish then I am not sure you are being realistic. So we have gone from expectation to hope and now wish this season. I posted earlier this year a question about most frustrating seasons then later realized that the question was not appropriate for the time of year. But if we don’t make a run to the second weekend I am confident in saying this season will be right up there as one of the most frustrating. The three words noted above quantify why that would be the case. Expectation, Hope and Wish. We are now clearly in the wish world.

People act like Creighton has actually won something. I think the only people in the state who care about Creighton are people who went there; most other people, if they care about basketball in the first place, root for an Iowa or Kansas. And the people who didn’t go there and still like them ain’t showing up in droves to NY.

It's true, people have a romanticized memory of 2014 ncaa and past BET's. There is a huge glut of tix to both the regional final and the Big East Final and they are on Sat and Sun. People in CT are off from work and are close enough to buy up all the tix and head in. That does not happen for the regional semi's or the BET semis. The tix are too expensive and too scarce. And everybody can't get into NYC on Fri night from CT. The semis in 2014 was not overly UConn. Tix were going for 650 bucks on the secondary market.

If we made it to the finals on Sat. it would have been a sea of blue, just like the old days.

Creighton is mostly Omaha-centric. Nebraska (the university) is statewide, but specifically as if pertains to basketball, the support is Lincoln-centric; the lack of any sort of success makes most NU football fans from out-state only support the hoops program in a casual and perfunctory sort of way. So really it’s an Omaha vs Lincoln sort of setup, with the Lincoln faction absolutely hating the fact that there’s a decent chunk of our fans that root for them in football while hating them in basketball ( but that’s easily a minority of CU fans and I am not one of them).

KU and Iowa are both over 200 miles from Omaha. If you support one of those programs it’s because you have a connection of some sort to that state or school. Iowa State is probably as big or bigger in these parts but still small potatoes.

Creighton for the longest time hated NU and NU didn’t give a crap about how we felt because we weren’t worth considering in their estimation. Then they started to get aggravated after we put it on them for about 15 years, but they always came back with the fact that in the Valley we will always be the little school, and it’s inevitable that they will eclipse us again.

Then we got into the BE, it became clear to them that we were going to be really damn hard to dislodge, and open warfare started. I mean, look at Nebraskan18 on here, he’d rather drink molten lava than say a single good thing about us. That’s where the two of us are.

So there’s a few paragraphs about the state of hoops here. Most of the city is behind CU (the school isn’t big enough to attract 18k just on alums, the enrollment won’t support it), Lincoln supports their laughingstock, and we go from there.

Okay, so this is what I was saying already; that many state-wide people just follow Nebraska, automatically reducing the otherwise potential pool of Creighton fans.

KU is a national brand. There are fans of that program all over the country, especially those without a strong state program, such as Nebraska.

Thanks for the effort but this is just about your in-state rivalry and doesn’t debunk my opinion as to why Creighton doesn’t have some huge fan base; more so a dense, dedicated, and well-traveled one.

Tons of fans didn’t go there and attend NYC. A lot. I myself went to Nebraska-Omaha but have been a CU fan since I was in college there. You saying what you said is wrong, but you’re free to believe what you want.

And, other hoops ‘brands’ that aren’t local aren’t more or less popular here than they would be in Connecticut. There are indeed Iowa fans, but I’m sure there are PC fans living in eastern CT as well.

You guys have been pretty successful in baseball too. Big East baseball is pretty much UConn and Creighton.

@Rocktheworld for better or worse, people in that area, whether Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa or Missouri are pretty big college basketball fans. They just are. There's a reason the Big 12 is successful at the sport. So I think BlueJay is saying that they've got a good sized city that has essentially adopted Creighton as its basketball team. Had NU ever managed to succeed at hoops, it probably wouldn't be that way. KC is split between KU, Missouri and somewhat K-State and Iowa or Iowa State (all five of which are in the tournament for example). But Omaha just has Creighton.
