Wow! For what seemed like a long time, it appeared the ladies would be outscored 7 to 10 for the first quarter. Thank goodness the defense tightened up and their shots started falling instead of rimming out. Defense in the 3rd quarter was incredible and left the Crusaders reeling. A (so far) unusual 42% 3FG rate (with the mostly second team hitting 62% in the 4th quarter!) put the game away.
There's defenseive lapses where there are too many players going to help on a slasher, leaving 2 (and once 3) opponents open on the outside, and failures boxing out by pretty much everybody. And I don't understand why Kaitlyn twice found a clear track under the basket across the baseline without putting up a shot. Not the only one to pass up open shots, though. Guess they're having trouble hearing Geno on that topic.
In the end, happy for the grit they showed against a determined defense, not being rattled when the Crusaders shot 70% for the 2nd quarter, that 3rd quarter swarming defense, and Geno giving everyone a chance to show what they have in a competitive (for 2.5 quarters) game.
Note: I've put the minimum required minutes on court back to 100. Morgan, Azzi, Q, and Allie are thus not yet eligible for the grid.
