High Praise From Nic Batum

The coolest part of this is that Nic in recent years has been the modicum of basketball IQ on the court whether on the clippers or sixers more recently, anyone who has watched him for Philly knows how smart he is on the court.

This isn’t the NBA, there are 350+ D-1 schools, trends take decades to happen, not years. The talent pool simply isn’t deep enough for everyone to chase the same style.

We may see some copy cats at the very top, but more likely that coaches continue to coach their way, and recruit for their own systems.

Lucky for us.

That’s all we needed to see to know why he is mainly on the bench.

Are there that many good-to-great players who will commit to being unselfish in pursuit of an NC? Are there that many coaches willing to work that hard to build the kind of culture Dan Hurley has built? Are there even that many kids with parents that will stay out of the way and not pursue immediate $$?
YES, there are. And you don't need 40, you just need a few each year. And UConn can be selective.

Hurley has been broadcasting the qualifications he's looking for at every opportunity. His media interviews are like Wanted Ads for Seal Team 6. Every player in the country who wants to win, knows they will if they play for Hurley. And they'll get drafted by the NBA, because NBA GM's can do simple math. They know that any of our players could boost their stats if they played somewhere else, but they want players who love the game and value winning, not headache inducing prima donnas.
