If GDL is still the OC going into the spring game, I'll have lost what remaining faith I had in the Athletic Department. It would mean they either they are oblivious to fan sentiment or could careless about it - either way that shows incompetence.

The heights and weights for three starting offensive lines. One is UConn's, one is Notre Dame's, the other is Alabama's. Don't see "staggering" difference

6-6 311
6-3 320
6-5 302
6-3 303
6-6 335
Avg: 6-4 1/2, 314.2

6-4 304
6-3 310
6-3 304
6-3 295
6-5 309
Avg. 6-3 1/2, 304.4

6-9 309
6-5 309
6-4 302
6-2 306
6-6 295
Avg. 6-5 1/2 304.2

Fair enough. But for some reason I'm gonna go ahead and assume we don't have the same level of talent on our O-line as ND or Bama.

If the last guy drove the car off a cliff, you don't expect to get it all back in one year. I fully believe that the year after Edsall left, our talent level moving forward was as bad as it'd been in a very long time. I think it is generally reasonable to give someone 3 years unless they are putting in 2-10 or 3-9 seasons, quite honestly. But reasonable people have disagreed.
and yet we could have been bowling but for bad game decisions by the coaching staff. Good coaches can coach up a less talented squad but it takes a uniquely unqualified individual to coach teams down.

I just don't think the blame lies solely with the players.

There are a lot of problems. A lot of problems. Here's just a few I can think of:

-Stuck in dead-end conference
-No idea where we'll end up?
-Fickle fan base with middling attendance
-No real TV presence
-Mediocre recruiting area/history
-Poor clock management (on coaches)
-Generally predictable offense/meh playcalling
-New Oline which we have to admit is staggeringly small for a BCS program
-Another year of a QB with no BCS experience
-Receivers dropping passes
-Head case kicker
-Uncertain that a big-time coach would even come here unless he had serious character issues

So yeah, I look at all that, and I see a 5-7 season, and I look at Maryland, and I think, duck, it could get a lot worse, all things considered. We'll see.
So you don't see any coaching issues at all? Just wondering.

I do see coaching issues. My fear is that people overestimate how good a coach really wants to come here without serious character flaws.

And this is where I question PP. Is he oblivious to the general sentiment out there? Does he really feel that holding onto a coordinator who is despised by fans and has failed to show any results on the field is more important than not alienating the fan base?

Do you think even the best coaches base their staff decisions on how the fans feel?

Not disputing that results are what they are... just the fact that coaches don't care what fans believe.

And Im going to assume the coaching/scheme was not as good as it was when Foley was in charge.

All they have to believe is the numbers and their own eyes, assuming they can see. That is currently in question. We know that they're not going to fire themselves. The question is can they change. All indications are they are committed to the same philosophy and it's pretty clear the other coaches are not on board with that. That's why they are LEAVING.

More point was in relation to this statement - "is he (PP) oblivious to the general sentiment out there". Coaches don't make changes on fan's pissing and moaning even if they are on point. Only AD/GM/Owner force the changes.

You don't believe conference realignment/better future earnings has to do more so with the coaches leaving than coaching philosophy?
