I actually found myself really excited and looking forward to the upcoming season.

I was going to use this sell my more casual friends on season tickets.

Hey, the guy that ran the 3rd worst offense in FBS is gone, come back on board everyone!

But no. In all likelihood due to a difficult schedule and the loss of many impact seniors, UConn Football will go into another season with no buzz at all.

If not for the Michigan game I think this program would be ready to fall off the proverbial cliff.

The only chance PP has to see 2014 is for GDL to go and is replaced with a young innovative OC. If PP can't see that, then he is not very smart.

and by golly you are actually in a position TO DO SOMETHING about this. Just show today's GDL threads to Sue and Larry McHugh

"See, Ms. Herbst? Several people on the Internet are very angry with us. I would consider this definitive proof."

More like:

Ms. Herbst our offense ranked 118 out of 120 teams in FBS. Not to mention furthering keeping this staff around further alienates a rapidly dwindling fanbase.

Seriously. Who keeps their job after placing as the 3rd worst in the country at what you are supposed to be doing?

If the last guy drove the car off a cliff, you don't expect to get it all back in one year. I fully believe that the year after Edsall left, our talent level moving forward was as bad as it'd been in a very long time. I think it is generally reasonable to give someone 3 years unless they are putting in 2-10 or 3-9 seasons, quite honestly. But reasonable people have disagreed.

I disagree. When Edsall left, our talent level at RB was poor and we did not have a QB, but the rest of our talent was as good if not better than what we have had, especially on defense. I don't fault PP and GDL for not having a QB in 2011 and they got a juco for 2012 as well as a freshman, so they recognized the need. But, I can fault them for RB depth and talent as they could have brought in a few RBs for 2012 and they did not as they brought in only Joe Williams. They did see what McCombs and the other RBs were capable of in 2011, so it's not like they didn't know that they needed more RB depth. Thus, were forced to use a 160 lb. power back almost full time.

Plus, we changed a successful OL coach and switched to a zone blocking scheme which obviously did not work and made our OL talent look even worse than it was. And, we ran a predictable offense with a Wildcat that not only didn't work, but it disrupted the offensive rhythm. Blame that on coaching.

If talking about PP you have 5-7 years. Talking about GD you have 118 of 120 offense. Name another BCS team that would keep that OC for a 3rd year.

Even Randy Edsall canned his OC after one year at Maryland!

I think at the end of the day I don't really want the AD firing specific coordinators. As I said, I think you give PP his 3 years, and if wants to keep on a poor OC, then that's on him. It'll be a part of his evaluation after year 3, and if he kept it on and the offense doesn't improve, then you know how it ends.

I feel sick to my stomach. I had my first day of genuine excitement in quite some time today. Thank you, bad journalism and falsified twitter rumors. If my AD won't make me happy, at least you guys did.

Not just a Twitter rumor - they put a full article on website this afternoon that needed correcting!

Definitive proof, Irishloop are you serious? We had the worst offense in the country, the entire fanbase wants GDL gone.

And this is where I question PP. Is he oblivious to the general sentiment out there? Does he really feel that holding onto a coordinator who is despised by fans and has failed to show any results on the field is more important than not alienating the fan base?

If you can't get the people rabid enough to post on a message board to care about your program...well...

I like John Silver! I take that as a compliment. ;)

I actually really do think he does some good analysis and I don't know who else does a better job actually breaking down the football team for us.

He's my favorite guy to follow for news on UConn... Ed D (not going to attempt to spell his last name) provides good analysis and is actually pretty funny.
I'm just poking fun at how your message of blame players aligns with theirs.

I was all set to come up with a new sig line based on today's almost news... instead, it fits more than ever for UConn...

I just don't think the blame lies solely with the players.

There are a lot of problems. A lot of problems. Here's just a few I can think of:

-Stuck in dead-end conference
-No idea where we'll end up?
-Fickle fan base with middling attendance
-No real TV presence
-Mediocre recruiting area/history
-Poor clock management (on coaches)
-Generally predictable offense/meh playcalling
-New Oline which we have to admit is staggeringly small for a BCS program
-Another year of a QB with no BCS experience
-Receivers dropping passes
-Head case kicker
-Uncertain that a big-time coach would even come here unless he had serious character issues

So yeah, I look at all that, and I see a 5-7 season, and I look at Maryland, and I think, duck, it could get a lot worse, all things considered. We'll see.

The heights and weights for three starting offensive lines. One is UConn's, one is Notre Dame's, the other is Alabama's. Don't see "staggering" difference

I personally believe that McHugh is a major part of the problem.
