Hartford lost Daphne Elliott (7.6 ppg), Alex Hall (5.7 ppg and Nikkie Smith (10.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg) to graduation. Looks like Hartford lost a bit of their punch from last year and probably won’t be as a good team as they were. Which does not bode well since UCONN beat them last year 102-45.
They don’t have much height (6-2 is tallest) and were not great shooters last year. Bepko and Bultran look like they will be the 3 pt shooters, so UCONN will have to watch that (but that's about all they will have to watch). Don’t expect Hartford to get much in the paint. UCONN can pretty much have their way there. Does not look like they have played any exhibition games???? So this may be their first shot out of the gate…..which does not bode well for them.
Good note, they were picked #2 in the America East Conference. Bepco was picked pre-season All-Conference. Hartford have 4 Freshmen, so maybe one of them can help. Alyssa Reeves (6-0 F) was an All-State selection in CT.
Things are not looking good for the Hawks. Possibly, this being UCONN's first “real game” maybe they will be over anxious??? It won’t really matter of course. I put 97-43 in the prediction thread. That might end up being conservative. I don''t see this going much better than the exhibition games went for Hartford. Looks like Lawler and Pulid will be getting some playing time.
