Here comes the trap game.

Dan will have the team peakin' for the Pitinos. Great start to Feb with a healthy roster. Pops will be playing with the press/media re: Danny leading up to the tip on Friday as he always does. Take care of Jr first.

We are into February with 4 solid bench layers who can make a difference and are comfortable with their roles. They were all on their game vs Creighton and it showed what can be if they can keep that level of play up. I don't expect us to win every BE game left but do not see a let down on Tuesday vs Xavier. Could be a closer game but at home we win. I'm surprised the league did not have the St Johns game on Saturday night. Could have gained a larger national audience. Maybe Knicks or Rangers related?

I was surprised also. A friend of mine lives in New Jersey and we planned to go to the game before the schedule was announced. I told him the game would probably be on a Saturday night as the FOX featured game and would be perfect since I could drive down there on Saturday.

There is nothing at MSG this Saturday so that wasn't the issue. Just Val doing Val things.

Hurley takes “trap” games and makes them statement games.

Hope PBA blasts the XX’s “intro” song as we re 2x as good as X.

We need to seriously practice breaking the press and making FTs before StJ at MSG

Will be interesting - StJ has been 84 or over in 7 of last 9 BE games, 4x over 90. They're pushing pace, will pressure full court. It's not disimilar to what they were doing in 2023.

Of course no one expect to lose to X, that is the definition of a trap game. Every year there is a lose that you say, "I didn't see that one coming." I think they will win by double digits but they could lose obviously. You would think sooner or later their FT shooting, rebounding problems, excessive fouling and foul trouble will get the best of them. Then again, maybe not. Maybe they have an appointment with destiny?

UConn is 58th in rebound margin in the country. Not great for a team in the top 10 of every metric rating but not terrible either. Feels like they've been better lately.

St. John's is 79th FWIW. Houston is 117th (surprised at that one).

I mean I guarantee Fox themselves picked Friday night for the game. Probably because they wanted the Big Ten game (Illinois/Mich St) on Saturday.

Lot's of top teams rank high here, showcasing how much weight it carries. Houston that low is suprising, as they dominated this category last year and have Tugler back. Shows how important Roberts was. Cenac doesn't bring quite the dawg that way.

In the preseason, when this game was scheduled, UConn was ranked #4 and St. John's was #5. Illinois was #17 and Michigan State was #22. Plus the New York City market, game at MSG, and it feels like our game would have been the marquee game of the weekend. Why when the game was scheduled would Fox think Illinois/MSU would be a bigger attraction?

If you see the list of the most viewed CBB teams, you'd know why. No different than CFB. These P4 schools with massive alumni bases, middle America get eyeballs. NE hoops doesn't. I just saw the list and UConn wasn't even top ten. MSU was #1 most viewed, Illinois was top 5 I believe. They want viewership in a prime time slot. Most of that list was B10, Duke & UNC I believe.

Honestly, It's possible Friday is the bigger game night for Fox. It's standalone and a lot less competition than Saturday night, and they've been trying to make it a thing. It's Fox's old Smackdown timeslot. But either way, the Big Ten schools tend to get bigger ratings even with worse poll rankings. Michigan State has the #1 TV ratings on the season out of everyone.

St. John’s is pressing all the way, going for turnovers, and hammering on our guys. We need to stay even on the glass, our offense is better. Our coaches have a game plan.
Yes and they will certainly egg us into inbounding the ball into the corner….trap.
